Button & Ava

Ava takes a bite, eats the pulp of the grape, scraping it off the skin with her beak, then drops the skin. She does the same with apple slices. So, I guess she peels it in a way. 😆
Yeah, Nameliss isn't so weird! She peels apples too. Uses her beak like a veggie peeler.

It’s Button’s 3rd Gotcha Day today! I thawed a chunk of birdie bread to give to the birds tonight for dinner, then forgot to give it to them. It will have to wait for tomorrow. 🤦‍♀️

Awwwwww Happy Gotcha Day, Button!! Hopefully the little munchkin won't take out a chunk of your flesh for forgetting his celebratory birdie bread, @nkrbkr ;)

Ava has already completely reduced one of the toys I made for her a couple of days ago to mulch, so I quickly strung this up last night. I put it in her cage, and she was already working on it in less than 30 seconds. This girl is a chewing machine. The bird room is also our home office. I was working on the computer for a few hours yesterday, & Ava was chewing away the whole time I was in there with her. I think I’m going to have to buy a truckload of toy parts. 😳🤣 Joking aside, I’m very happy she’s keeping herself entertained.

It's fun when they have 'constructive' release for those sharp beaks.

Ava and I had a bit of a “breakthrough” moment today. I know she likes me, and has from the beginning. However, she normally allows my husband to scratch her head, preen her pin feathers, and she preens his hair and stubble in return. Well, today, she started preening my hand while I was holding her, and let me kiss her on the top of the head several times while doing so. It was a very sweet interaction. 🥰

Awwwwwwwww that's so sweet, @nkrbkr, your heart must be bursting!! 🥰

Excellent. It's so nice when avian affection is returned.

I was so excited! She and I have had a lot of one on one time the last few days, as my husband is away on a business trip. Either she’s desperate, or him being away allowed her to realize I can snuggle too. 😂

I can tolerate most preening except my hair! Nameliss pulls too hard. When I try to stop her, she gets between my shoulder blades. I have to wait her out. 😩

Oh no! It seems they all have figured out the hiding between the shoulders move. Lol

Ava has been very gentle so far, but Button pinches my neck, and it drives me nuts!

Yuri is a neck pincher too. I hate it. Ouch! I keep telling her I don’t need preened 😭

Juliette is obsessed with skin tags. I don't mind the head preening, but when she tries to actually remove bits and pieces on my neck it can get uncomfortable. It's very thoughtful of her though, to try to improve things.

Ouch! Sounds like we’ve all got some little stinkers! Button has repeatedly tried to remove a mole on my neck. You’d think he’d eventually realize it doesn’t come off. Or maybe he does realize it, and does it to hear me squeal. 😆

Shes just grooming you like she would any BFF. Avian friends also let them know when it hurts. Joey tries to remove ANY skin imperfections! Skin tags (I have none but my husband does, scabs (I have lots of these), bandaids, and dry skin on my lips keep her very busy. She's tried to clean my teeth and inside my nose! I know she's just grooming us and she's very gentle until she finds a flaw that's got to go. I need to wear long sleeves, keep my mouth closed and not let her try to stick her head up my nose!

Skin tags, moles, scabs, nail polish, new glasses, tattoos etc are the bain of some human pets. I gave up nail polish, even clear. It was too much work to keep Nameliss occupied and away from it. Daughter came back from on overseas tour. She had a beautiful tattoo inked above her bum. Naturally she showed it off to both of us. Nameliss now eyes my daughters bum. I am not certain how many pants, underwear etc have beak rips. Shirts are beaked up. So they're usually hole free. My daughter is trained to never bend or point her bum at or near cage. It's hysterical to watch her move around cage or Nameliss face first. Then that moment comes. Carelessness, a dropped object and the target is in range. Then 'my bird' gets grounded to 'her cage'. And I'm struggling not to laugh. Laughter is viewed as encouragement to one. Insults and reason why I hate birds to the other. I like how Nameliss takes my grooming into account, hair and all.
