Button & Ava

Now you know all about inos and not your own bird! I don't know much about dark eyed white or yellow birds' genetics.
I’m wondering if he might be an Opaline Pallid Turquoise. I did a little digging, and found some info on these two websites:

When I googled Opaline Pallid Turquoise, I found an image of this bird that looks very similar to Button.

I don’t know if Button’s eyes were plum colored as a hatchling, but his feet and beak are very light colored, not grey. He never had a black spot on his beak near his nares as a baby. He’s mostly yellow and white, with some areas of very light greenish/bluish, and has a white head with a very light peach brow.

Ava and I started some recall training today, which she thoroughly enjoyed. My goal is for her to be recall trained before her flight feathers grow back in so she’s easier to handle. She hasn’t molted any of her clipped feathers yet, so we’ve got lots of time to practice. We started by doing little hops between two chair backs. I gradually increased the distance between the chair backs, and at the end of the session she was comfortable with flapping/hopping about 15ā€. I’ll continue increasing the distance gradually over more training sessions, and will eventually ask her to come to my hand instead, but will be sure only to ask for what she’s capable of doing. Poor girl can’t get much lift with her wings clipped as they are, but it’s great exercise and practice for her nonetheless.

Awesome! Those hops will help her build up muscle strength while waiting for those feathers to grow back, and will do wonders for her confidence too!

That’s my hope too, to build her confidence. When we adopted her in June, she was so clumsy, and even had difficulty climbing around in her new big cage. She wouldn’t hop from perch to perch, & couldn’t figure out how to climb on a swing. She’s been building some confidence and muscle over the last few months, no doubt. She’s much less clumsy, and climbs around her cage, no problem. She’ll be a fit little lady in no time. 😊
