Buying a Sun Conure via Craigslist - What to look for?

congratulations.....I'm glad it worked out for you!

he looks like a real sweetheart :)

With LOTS of out time that cage will do fine for a while. Save up and get the biggest that will fit into your budget/house. Look at flight cages. There are some huge ones in your price range, Zoopreem is fine, I have gone to Roudybush, others will tell you there favorites. Looks like the little guy could use a shower soon. I would say barring bad heath you did great!

Awww what a cutie! That's so exciting!

For cages just try for the biggest you can get with your budget. You can even check craigslist. I'm about to get this cage AE Medium Corner Aviary for $200 never used and still in the box from a lady on craigslist who just didn't have room for it.

Also I'm not really sure about that particular food but zupreem in general is good! Not the best out there but much better than a seed diet. Oliver likes zupreem fruit blend (which is dyed euughh) but I'm trying to get him on Harrison's.

I plan on keeping him out of the cage whenever I'm around, he's very well tamed so that should be easy. I do plan on getting him one of those play gyms to hang out on sometimes. Bathing is something I didn't even think of! I'll toss him in the sink in a few days.

Impressive cage, nice find! I actually have some Harrison's that I tried to get my parakeet interested in, I'll start to mix it into the zupreem after a week or so.

I say go to Craigslist and look for a cheap cage in the size you want. I got a big cage people here often link to new bird owners used for $50 with perches. I scrubbed everything down before I introduced my bird to it, but man was the cage an awesome find. Just keep looking!

OMG, I'm so happy for you! He's gorgeous. Suns are such great companions. You're in for loads of fun. :D

Before you do the sink, try the shower perched on your arm or even just a mist of a squirt bottle. That would be less intimidating to begin with.

Lukah was in a cage around that size the first 3 months I had him. He was okay with it, mostly because he didn't know better. He now has a cage that is 20" x 28" x 40" (actual cage size not including stand) he loves it! he doesn't use the bottom half too much yet... mostly because I don't have much down there yet... on a budget! But I think it is a very good size for a Sun Conure. A single one at least. He definitely has plenty of room for toys and everything! Everyone will say the bigger the better and that's true, but I think that my size is a very good size. If you find something bigger that fits in your room and in your budget, go for it though! (might as well).

Lukah's cage also has 3/4" spacing and 1" spacing in some parts. 1" is too big. His head can fit through... he never tries to escape or stick his head through, but I put some shelf liner and zip tied it to the spaces that are 1" just to be safe. I would go with 3/4"!

Wow, you got him at a really good deal....He must really have to move soon.....Sun Conures are just beautiful!!!

I misted him and he seemed okay!
