Cage play tops - yes or no

Drawback of platops is there is less "head room" with the flat roof. Makes it seem smaller and like a closed in feeling much more so than a dometop of the same width and depth. Also if you use the top tray, it makes it darker in there too. Much darker than a dometop. .

I was going to add this about Pea's play top cage. I leave a light on by her cage because it is much darker than the dometops. I thought about taking the tray out of the top so it would be lighter, and she doesn't play up there anyway, but sometimes Sassy flies to the top of Pea's cage and I like that the tray is there so there are no little feet exposed.

Ok - that could be a problem for me as well...but I can figure it out. Right now I have a light on top of one of the cages that I was thinking about putting a play top on. If I do that and use the tray I can't use the light on top. However, I could put a shelf on the outside of the cage for the light. Hmmm, where did I see those for sale yesterday.

Hey everyone - thanks for your replies. I'm in the process of re-configuring my whole family room again. It's obvious that the Too wants to be near and play with the Severe. I can't figure out if the Zon wants to play with them or just wants them off of his cage. ;) (I honestly think it's the later.)

It's obvious that the fids would rather play on the outside and the tops of their cages than on the Java trees...go figure.

If you use your play top do you use the trays or not? Both of mine came with trays and I really prefer the trays out so that the cage itself isn't so dark.

I use the trays. But then I put stuff like carboard boxes and phone books in the trays. That becomes the shredding zone...

So much to think about.

Tow of my birds though like to hang from the top and if I put the trays in I won't be able to see it as much. (Ok - I'm whining...sorry.)
