Hi everyone right we got our yellow sided conure october last year, the lady said she thinks its a male but we really unsure, he was around 6mths old, hes really good with everyone in the house, around 2 weeks ago he started sitting on the top of my tab whilst im using it and now for the past couple of days hes started preening my hair and kissing me and almost like hes tasting my skin and cheeing my clothes, then tonight when my husband spoke to me and I answered him, our little conure sort of chopsed at him and nipped me as if to say stop talking to him. my husband thinks hes getting jealous but obviously as this is our first conure we dont really know their behaviour, if someone could help be very grateful. Tia..:)

That behavior is very normal for conures, and actually lots of parrots. They usually pick their person, and do get jealous and over protective. Sounds like your Conure has definitely chosen you!

Welcome to the forums, hope you enjoy your stay.....

You, FB & Mozzie are all right and you're the one who has to intervene & show your displeasure to your feathered friend...often a sharp NO accompanied by an upset look on your face.....maybe placing him/her back in its cage for 15 minutes or so also.....

Being flock animals, they are also very body language conscious and always are interested in their human's approval.....it would be a good idea to also read up on training conures not to bite.....too often we bring a new bird home without realizing that if we don't teach them that some of their actions are unacceptable, they get the idea their actions are OK and since it appears you are the accepted human, you're the one who needs to do the primary training, but your husband will need to be involved also...often letting him change the feed & water bowls and give him/her treats will help, but you need to start the family's new training sessions right away.....

Good luck.....

Ahhhh, it's Valentines day....did you get the Lil' conure a valentines yummy?

Seriously, he's chosen you and is jealous of your husband.....my senni dose the same thing, my wife talks, my senni gets mad and trys to attack her, if she can't get to her she'll take it out on me as if saying don't talk to her....Yeah, it's a jealousy thing...welcome to my world and the great world of parrots...that's the way a great majority of them are. They'll calm down after a year or 2 once they realize your mate is not a threat to the birds mate....

Sheldon does the same thing. He'll be sitting on my shoulder and my husband will come close and he'll get all fluffed and start to grumble and chatter, then SHeldon leans to me and give me KISSES. Sometimes not to gently. Then he goes back to grumbling at my husband, gives me kisses and that will continue till I put a stop to it. I have to laugh tho, it's like SHeldons telling him that "she's mine! Stay AWAY!"

Thankyou all for that, we thought that was probably what was going on, when he does nip I do already say no and he sits and looks as if to say, oh im sorry, bless him, he was supposed to be my husbands conure but like youve all said hes chose me, oh I should say his names casper to be fair he is very sweet though bless him. :)
