My cockatiel has been prescribed Ciprofloxacin for a mild upper respiratory infection.

Is there a maximum amount of days he can be on it? I’ve heard no longer that 21 days? Is this true?

Did they tell you what the infection was? How was it diagnosed and what tests did they run to determine the need for Cipro? It is going to depend on a lot of things....

You should always come home with a document that show the tests and their results and when medication is proscribed, the document shows what they are treating for and how long the medication is provided.

If you did not get such a document, call and ask for it to be emailed to you!

They did a gram stain and culture. It grew a lot of Staph. They said to have him take it for 17 days, and when I called back to see if he can continue on it for another week, they said that’s fine.
