Cockatiel showering?

Hi. I'm new to this forum. I had never heard of a cockatiel (or any bird) taking a shower! I love the idea. How old should the bird be? (Mine is 9 weeks old.) Also, how to do know what temperature is safe for him? Thanks for a fun thread!

Hi and welcome to the forum! A LOT of birds like showers!!! Amy my Amazon loves to shower with me The water temp should be just luke warm!! Run your arm/hand under the water first...if it feels cool to you then you should be ok...remember birds skin is way more fragile then ours!!!
P.S...this is an OLD thread!! Almost five years old1!!!

Hi welcome! I don't shower with my birds, just give bowl for bath or Spritz them.

An introduction to showering is to use a mister bottle and gradually increase size of the droplets. Never use an "old" or repurposed bottle that contained any sort of chemicals. "Dollar Stores" or equivalent sell a good sized bottle with adjustable nozzle. Rinse, and fill with warm water. Begin with holding the bottle a foot or so away, and spray with tip pointed upwards. Droplets will fall from above similar to rain. As comfort level increases, increase size of droplets and eventually you'll be able to spray a nice swath over the body, under wings, etc.

To prevent mold, rinse the bottle and allow to air-dry frequently!

My cockatiels would be too scared to go in the shower but they love spray bottle misting baths -- I gave them all one today in fact! I fill the bottle with very warm water and it cools down as I spray them down.

I have seen several people place their cockatiels in the shower (on bottom of tub and running shower nearby or sitting on a suction cup perch near the water.) It should be a comfortable temperature, a little warm.

my sun hates the water-spraying bottle and also the shower, but she looooooves the bathroon sink with an inch of water on the bottom and then sit under slow running water (mostly just lukewarm) and splash around she is not a lover of frequent or long baths though, but some suns do love to sit under running water for longer, depends on the bird itself mostly...

back when I had budgies they loved to either crawl all across the huge leaf of salad or bathe in a deep plate (you normally use for soup) and splash aaaalllll around, it was so adorable
though we had one who loved to 'take a bath' in a salad bowl... full of green leaf salad with salt, oil, vinegar that was waiting to be eaten by us...

My little 'tiel loves a good shower! I'll sit him on the curtain rod and turn the shower on and he'll fly right in!
