I brought my sweet baby Coco home yesterday and a few minutes ago I found her sitting on top of her cage. Nobody let her out of her cage. I am a bit worried. Any ideas? Should I keep a sheet over the cage at night? Should I work on fattening her up so she can't fit through the bars? Please don't tell me I have to buy a new cage. I think after throwing out all our pots and pans and cleaning products, my husband is starting to get frowney at my Coco p.s. Isn't she perfect!!!!!!

very secure with the same width between the bars that you see in the picture. Coco certainly isn't pushing a door open and squeezing through.

Those bars are too far apart, they look the same as my cage at home. I've moved the location of my cage into a corner so 2 sides are blocked off. I then pegged a small towel to the open side and he's stopped. I've just removed the towel last week (after about a month or more) and he doesn't get out any more. You'll need to experiment or change you cage. I liked my cage to much to change it personally.

Why not have her cage door open all the time during the day?

I'd be worried about her getting fat and getting stuck.

Well I was juicing some pineapple for breakfast and she shimmied right out of her cage and made her way over for a taste. Big pineapple fan evidently. Her second day here and she wasn't afraid of the juicer or me working around her while she nibbled. I am madly in love My plan at this point is to let her roam free as long as we are home (which is most of the time because I homeschool) and cover her cage when we leave. I will probably buy a new cage though. We will save this one for a larger bird down the line

That's what I do. I always have the cage open when I'm home. In fact Loco actually likes to go back to his cage and play and eat now. Once Coco settles in you'll be fine I'd say. The towel trick is handy though, it throws them off
