No waiting more than a couple days to see if they get get better. A bird has to be pretty sick to refuse its favorite activities, foods and toys. A bird can lose a lot of weight before it's noticeable, and many pet birds don't let you feel their bodies to see if they've gotten bony so weigh your bird periodically.
