Conure Possibly Pregnant

We are sitting at the emergency vet. Kiwi was puking this morning. It’s the first time I’ve seen a parrot puke, and not regurgitate like Nico my Ekkie. She wasn’t moving around anymore even for food. She can still perch. She wasn’t eating or drinking anymore either. The vet has her in an incubator waiting to be seen.
Oh @kme3388 I'm so sorry to hear of this development! Big hugs for you and prayers for Kiwi, I hope she pulls through!! 🙏 🙏 🙏

Kiwi's situation should remind all of us that if our birds are not acting like their usual selves they could very well be sick and we need to get them to a qualified avian vet (or the most qualified vet you can find) ASAP. No waiting more than a couple days to see if they get get better. A bird has to be pretty sick to refuse its favorite activities, foods and toys. A bird can lose a lot of weight before it's noticeable, and many pet birds don't let you feel their bodies to see if they've gotten bony so weigh your bird periodically. Amazon sells small gram scale for birds, complete with a perch, for as little as $35.

This is her after she was sedated for labs. She was still out of it. My husband called tonight they told us no news is good news tonight. Hopefully she pulls through. They started her on some sort of gastric med. They want to hold off on antibiotics until the labs come back either tomorrow afternoon, or Saturday. The vet told my husband tonight she’s at least reacting to people entering the room. She wasn’t doing that this morning, and she can’t fly today (too weak). Yesterday she could still fly. Lastly they have been able to get her to eat, but she isn’t drinking so they had to give her fluids.

Oh the poor darling! Hang in there, little sweetheart, and you and your hubby too @kme3388, we're all praying for you! 🙏 🙏 🙏

Kiwi is home. She looks much better than yesterday. She’s still not herself but at least she’s able to move around the cage. She’s on vet orders right now to not fly. That’s her only restriction.

We did find out yesterday she weighed 105 grams. She’s usually between 130-140 grams. It’s been well over a month since I weighed her myself.

We put the divider in her cage to separate her from Charlie her mate. I’m not sure if he was blocking her from eating, if their mating made her weak. Not sure, it’s my first bonded pair of parrots. Either way Charlie would be in Kiwi’s space expecting her to preen him.

She’s on 2 medications which she of course doesn’t want to take.

Oh YAY, I'm so glad she's home!! Can you maybe mix her meds with a little baby bird formula? It might help make it more palatable and get a bit of extra nutrition into her as well :)

I’m so happy she’s home!

They are waiting on the labs still. Someone called us from the vets office at 730 this morning to inform us that Kiwi is moving around a lot, trying to bite the techs, refusing meds, and looked to be doing better. So they said she didnt need to be in the hospital anymore. She’s on meloxicam, and metoclopramide until her labs come back (potential changes at that point). So no specific diagnosis yet. Im just trying to do preventable things at home. Yes, i did inform the vet that i had been hosing her with my male sun conure just encase that could be the cause.

Those are anti-inflammatory and anti nausea meds. Good she's feeling better. I hope they figure out what's wrong with her. She's such a cutie.
