Crimson conures, Roseifrons, Sun, Sunday and cockatiels.
I think a few of you on here have crimson bellied conures.

What can you tell me about them?

I've been told they are calmer than a GCC, do you find that's true?

I've also been told they are "a sun conure, without the screaming". I don't know sun conures, so that doesn't help me much.

Do you think your crimson bellied is demanding, like a GCC? Or are they able to have some solo play time on their gym?

Are they birds that choose a particular person, or will it be friendly to our whole family? It's important to us that the bird we choose is not a single-owner bird.

Thanks for any tips you might be able to give on these beautiful birds! :)

I have a wonderful little crimson bellied conure who is about 2 and half years old. I definitely agree that they tend to be calmer than a green cheek, but they do still have lots of energy! Conures in general are very playful and goofy birds.

As far as how demanding they are, I would say that they definitely need personal attention, but Penny is also pretty good about entertaining herself while I'm gone. A lot of this has to do with how a bird is raised. Some people spend too much time with their birds as babies, which results in a needy bird who can't stand being away from you for more than a couple minutes. If they are given alone time with lots of toys to play with from a young age, I think they tend to be less needy in general.

Any bird can be a "one person bird", but again it has to do with how they are raised and socialized. Penny is not the most social bird when it comes to new people. She really prefers me and doesn't like my roommates very much. This is probably due to the fact that I used to live alone and she really didn't get socialized very much. I think that if a bird is exposed to lots of new people, they are less likely do become "one person birds".

I hope that helps and please let me know if you have any other questions! Crimson bellies are wonderful and I'm sure you'll be happy if you end up choosing one as your new family member. :)

I just want to add something about GCC's, since you implied in your question they are demanding. I put off getting a GCC for two years, and went with other birds to avoid that non-stop attention-demanding behaviour. Well, now I have a GCC, and he's nothing like that. I got him a little over a month ago, when he was 3 months. Now, not being freshly weaned might have helped a little because he went back in the main bird room since his breeder had other birds to handfeed. I wanted to keep good behavior though. Right from the start, he learned I have a life outside of catering to him. He doesn't come out the moment I walk through the door, sometimes he waits an hour after I get home. Came in really handy the last few days when I was sick and barely let the birds out at all. When he is out, he's on me for awhile, sometimes as long as 40 minutes. Then I put him back on (not in) his cage to climb around and explore. He usually heads over the the budgie cage and plays with their toys. When it's the end of his session with me, he doesn't ask for more and plays happily by himself in the presence of other birds. I think GCC's are what you make them, so I just wanted to share because I too was daunted by their neediness. And so far, he is getting along with both me and my fiance.

I am due to have a little baby Crimson bellied Conure the end of March and have been receiving images of him(a guess) since he hatched and am very interested in information from other Crimson owners. I have a Sun Conure called Zak and 3 greencheeks already.
I understand that the true crimson colours do not come through for about 12 months like the Sun who was very green as a baby then the brilliant orange and yellow can through.
