Despicable Thief's!!!

how horrible! :( I hope they get caught, I can't imagine it's easy to hide the fact that you have 300 birds you didn't have before...

I heard about this. There are a lot of holes in the story. Maybe it was their age, or their house was mega sound proof.. but to me 300 birds sounds like it would make a hell of a noise.

The poor birds.

"About 10 years ago, this was happening every week in the south half of Florida. Groups of guys were going around stealing all the aviaries," he said.

Smith said the thieves gas the birds when they are asleep, then cut into the cages and take the birds by transporting them in burlap sacks."

:(

that is sad. i hope the people get caught that did that

But bird theft is not uncommon in South Florida, said Fred Smith, the Florida, Puerto Rico and Virgin Islands regional director of the American Federation of Aviculture.

I suppose if they did spray something in the cages or whatever and knocked them out they wouldn't fuss. Really hard to say if these were in their back yard and they were all closed up in an air conditioned house. Just hard to know really.

It's awful and maddening. Bad enough not knowing what conditions they would be kept in til sold or whatever but the theft part really pisses me off. I can't believe people have the mindset that it's ok to take something that belongs to someone else. What sort of person do you have to be to think that is ok?

They say you really don't know what you would do until faced with a situation..if I actually caught someone trying to steal anything or mine or do harm to my fids..I have a darn good idea how I would react.

Lexx and I were on the same train of thought

Just an FYI that you can quote someone buy clicking the "quote" in the bottom right of their dialog box. No need to copy and paste. :)

They had better get caught! I mean, what type of people would do such a thing?!?! These people have no heart or love! HOW COULD THEY! ;( This family will be in my thoughts, I hope they recover their birds. :( Man, if somebody tried to take my babies, I'd wack them upside the head with a frying pan...More than once. That's horrible. ;(

I don't doubt they were stolen by some fashion. I didn't read the gas part.

I feel more pity for the birds then the couple.

I hope the people who did this are caught. I hope the couple insured themselves well.

Those poor birds, and poor people, too! So many birds, and some of them babies - so they are much more fragile ...

The people who owned the birds seemed nice - she was more worried about the health and safety of the birds, and was concerned how the thieves would even transport them. Hopefully the thieves are caught somehow - the story didn't mention if any of the birds were banded or microchipped.
