All 4 of my 5 bird flock just had their first molts and are fully flighted. (I had to clip the new cockatiel - he is the only one who doesn't fly FAST) :D Anyway - during the cage-free time (most of the day) my house started to resemble a jungle with screaming wild bird flocks rushing above and beyond you all the time! Whenever one of them decides to take off somewhere everybody else does too with a joyful scream. :D They fly probably several miles a day like this. Amazingly they never crush into windows or other objects. But I feel like I'm loosing control over them - they remind me of unleashed dogs outside who don't want to go indoors. :)
Do you birds fly that much too? Or is it just a joy of the being flighted for the first time? I would probably never dear to clip them again. :)

Now that Riley is getting her tail feathers back (starting to think she is a he) she is flying more and more. Instead of her normal 5-6 ft flight once a day today she flew about 30-40ft and yesterday she kept flying in small circles. For example she was on my right shoulder at one point and instead of walking over to the left one she flew in a small horseshoe i guess you'd call it over to the left shoulder. Or for whatever reason she would walk down to my feet (I was sitting in a recliner and had it reclined) and then would fly back up to my shoulder. But as long as shes flying and buliding her confidence she can fly as much as she likes. So far the only time she's been flying is to come over to me. Today she flew from her cage to my shoulder while I was doing dishes about 3-4 times. Although she doesn't make any noise when she takes off I only know shes in flight by the sound of her wings.

My budgies are in the air the majority of the day also....it's always been like that here with all my birds throughout the years. They don't lose their tameness as a result. Although when a bird first gets his flight skills down, it tends to go a little hog-wild at first. But then they get into their routines, flight schedules, and such....and have their "hot-spots" that they visit in an orchestrated fashion throughout the day....a picture frame here, and lampshade there. There is a lot of cleaning every day, but it's so worth it. :)

A lot of cleaning is an understatement......

One of these days I will get a video of Mango doing his jet dive bombing routine. He'll fly at mach 1 right at your face, then brush your face with his wings as he goes by :p!
His new thing is a humming bird impersonation. He flies up to you then hovers, turns around and darts off!:D

LOL - this is SO FUNNY! I wish I could see that! :)

LOL. I know exactly what you mean. My conure and tiel spend most of their day in the air. Luna flies around at top speed like a little jet. She performs some pretty impressive mid-air acrobatics as well. Picasso flies along with her wherever she goes, although he's not as skilled of a flyer (he was clipped as a baby, she wasn't).

I've noticed the two of them rarely play with toys and I'm sure it's because flying provides them with all the entertainment they'll ever need. It brings so much happiness and enrichment to their lives, I wouldn't have it any other way.

I'll admit it does get exhausting sometimes. It's a lot harder to contain the mess (gotta love poop and dried food in hard to reach places!) and there's always someone who wants to land on your head. LOL

Isn't that funny that they all fly together? :) They sit for a little while, and then suddenly one goes off and all the flock follows! Now they found their new favorite spots - ceiling fans! They land so fast that the fans start moving and they are enjoying the carousel. LOL
yes, gcc is the fastest - he is like a military jet! :D but the budgies are getting there too!
Today we had a special moment - we practiced with my hubby for an upcoming performance (he plays viola) and the buddies gathered around the piano and quietly listened to the music with such serious faces! It was so cute that it kept me distracted from my score! LOL

Kiko went through his moult recently, and now he flies at least once a day{but that's usually when he is startled}. Sometimes it seems like he forgets he has to go down to land. xD
