Hi all, I'm new here.
I'm very worried about my little Green cheek, Elliot.
He got started this evening and flew down. Instantly he had a weird squeaky sound coming from his nose when he would breath. He is still drinking, I offered him water and he is still eating. He still makes his "talking" noises. I'm still very worried, did a seed get caught in his nose? If it doesn't get better by tomorrow I want to take him to the vet in the afternoon.
Also, the breathing does go silent when he is still but when he moves around you can hear his squeaky nose.
Has anyone else had experience with this sort of problem? Please help!!:(

I think you should definetly visit your avian vet. Labored breathing is a sign of respiratory infection. Did it start after he flew? If so, he could be really out of shape and could still be panting from the flight. But it depends on how long ago he this happened, and if it's more than a couple minutes, you should definetly take him in. You should do some gradual flight training with him to strengthen his muscles so he won't be out of breath every time he flies.

Anyone?! I'm desperate. I'm pregnant so you can only imagine how much more worried I am, He's my baby

Maybe a cold. Did he get a draft or a.c. blast? On my cat with chronic sneezing I would puta bit of Vicks vapor rub on his chin. It helped him breath. Don't know if that is good for birds

He has been fine the past few days. This came out of no where, right after he hit the blanket like he got something stuck in his nose. I've been with him all day and I haven't heard any labored breathing or signs of illness. I'm very worried, I will take him tomorrow afternoon if he doesn't get it out by then.

It would be unusual for a seed shell or like hard surface object to lodge inside the upper beak and for you not to see it since that area closes down fairly rapidly. Now, it is possible this time of year in some places in the World dependent on humidity and temperature that a build-up could occur and as a result of the 'fall?' compact to restrict the air passage. That could result in silent breathing when at rest and more noise when heavy breathing occurs.

If this is true, an Avian Vet would be able to flush that area and dislodge any build-up.ij-[

Commonly, there is a clicking sound when there is a respiratory infection and as the breathing becomes more labored, there can be tail-pumping - should you ever see this, you should be already on your way to the Avian Vet.

A squeaky sound is commonly associated with a restrictsion.

Should you go to the Avian Vet? Yes!

do not use vicks on your bird tea tree oils are lethal to birds.

Not yet, I'm working right now I will be taking him as soon as I get off.

UPDATE: I took Elliot to an avian vet an hour from where I live. The doctor was very helpful and listened to all my questions and concerns. He was very attentive to Elliot and found while inspecting further inside his mouth, there was indeed a seed lodged up in his nose. So thankful for the doctors and the easy process of removing the stuck seed.

I'm so happy that the vet was able to remove the seed, and that it wasn't an infection. They really are just like toddlers, my daughter shoved a bean up in her nose when she was little.

good to hear the seed got removed! Obviously someone got a little carried away when eating!

Very happy to hear your little Elliot is on the mend..How is he feeling today?

I'm so glad you took him to the vet, and that it was something so simple. That could have caused an infection over time, and infections in the head are dangerous. Sometimes the little things are matters of life and death ... for want of a nail, the shoe was lost ...

So happy to know the solution was fairly simple, thanks to your attentiveness!
