So this evening I was putting birds away after spending time with them..and j noticed that Hendrick, my blue budgie was breathing hard and even gaping...

Idk what happened....he was fine just a few hours ago when I was playing with him...he was outside with one other Keet (avra) and yes acting fine...I automatically called my vet.. I listened to him breathe..no crunchy noises .. heart is racing though...he was tail bobbing a tad.. I brought him into the bathroom and turned on the shower and let him breathe in the steam for awhile....

The vet says he doesn't sound like he has sac mites, so were looking into other possibilities... he took Hendrick and left for his office ..I've had Hendrick for 9 years ....I can't think of life without him...think good thoughts please...

You did the right thing calling the vet! Healing thoughts heading his way. *Hugs* for you!

Could it have been the heat outside?

I really hope he will be okay. :( Sending well wishes your way!!!

I hope everything is ok!!! Prayers are with you and Hendrick!!!

He's apparently twitching now?? His wings and head and body....what's going on with that??? I hope he makes it through the night.

Thoughts are with you. :( How is he doing?

I'm so sorry and hope he pulls through....

How's Hendrick doing today???? Twitching isn't good....I hope he's better now.....

Hoping he is alright! :( :(

He's alive...he's still twitching..not as much...and still breathing hard...but not as hard...the vet has run several tests...

I found a bottle of bug spray outside by their cages....I'm hoping someone didn't come into our back yard and spray the birds with it....

The gates were supposed to be locked...but for some reason or another they weren't..

That's another story :( but I'll try to keep you all informed.

Thanx for the well wishes...

That's just down right evil for someone to spray them with pesticides. Hope that's not the case....

Oh my Lord! I hope that isn't what happened, I can't imagine who would do such a thing! I hope your little guy gets better, my thoughts are with you.

Oh god, I seriously hope that didn't happen. Some people can be so cruel sadly.

Thoughts and prayers with you and Hendrick, how is he doing today?

Hendrick pulled through...it was determined that the birds were all sprayed with bug spray...and I caught the little sob trying to do it again...nobody I even knew....and his reason??? Just cause....some 25 year old that almost didn't make another day......I'll just say this...there wasn't much left when the police got here...

And Thanx to the law...there's nothing anyone can say about it..was I wrong to act that way??? I don't think so...

WOW Brandon!!! What FANTASTIC news!!!!! :)

And NO, you were NOT wrong to act that way. GOOD FOR YOU!!!!!

Good news, Hendrick recovering. I hope there are no long-term effects from the "bug spray" which can be fairly mild if pyrethrum to wildly horrible with other ingredients. As for dealing with the culprit, your laws are obviously skewed towards retribution and protection of private property. If I were to do that in this country (Oz) would probably get a longer gaol term than the culprit. We have to hope for serendipitous justice, like several "local lads" here (fellow Aussies will know what I mean- at least if they've lived in the bush) stealing a car, crashing it and one was killed. Problem is the funeral may bring dozens or hundreds in from elsewhere, with likely drinking and probable "public unrest" as a result.
