Domnijoe - The Art Studio and Bird Herder's Residence

Wonder if he likes flying. My CAG doesn't fly much. She'll fly short distance to explore something. Otherwise she climbs, walks around. Nameliss is a disassembler. She walks, climbs with the purpose of satisfying that. I honestly prefer that. I don't have much worry about her dive bombing or perch on high, hard to reach places.

Most of my budgie seem to love flying, but I know a lot of larger parrots don't fly much in household captivity. One of the problems with having companion birds and integrating them into our lives is their flight. With a dog or cat you can take them with you when you leave the house to do things, but that's almost impossible with most birds so they need to stay home, often confined to a cage. Even the most reluctant flyers could easily get spooked outdoors and fly off never to be seen again.
The other problem with parrots is their almost universal tendency to bite even the humans they like the most on occasion, or even frequently, especially when hormones rage. First time parrot owners seduced by cute YouTube parrot videos oftwn become scared of their birds. Dogs and cats have long been socialized and trained not to bite people. What person would tolerate cat or dog or any pet that attacks them? Us parrot people are a strange lot, indeed! 🤪

Especially since we're people who habitually and normally check birdie poo!!!

SO gonna hold off on the pak-o-bird for a while. It might be January before I get it. Decided to get other bird stuff, which will help in the case of Vortex. Got a tabletop bird stand/play area and some Nutriberries. Hopefully they'll like the play area :) . Hope the table top play thing is big enough for Yvons! Amazon used photoshopped images where the budgies were as big as macaws and.... yeah. If not, Vortex will have in-cage toys again :D.

Charlie and Redshift are 25 and 24 years old July 1st. Because Yvons is 17 and I don't know his exact birthday, his unofficial bird-day is going to be July 1st, too :D. Sigh... my boys are getting so mature!

Was at my friend's place today to help out with the BBQ/Garage sale tomorrow. Brought along Vortex. Had a bit of a problem with her travel cage. I was entering 7-11 to purchase bus tix, and the door smacked it pretty hard. The bottom of the cage (plastic) shattered and I missed my bus taping it together so she couldn't escape. Once at my friends' place, we spent time zip-tying a bottom together using the grate. Now I NEED a pak-o-bird, not just want one. OY. Going to rig together a new bottom tomorrow using some stainless steel wire I have for situations like these :) .

and a pic of me and Vortex with the cage (PLEASE excuse my ugly mug), and a close up of the jerry rigged cage.

Good luck! I wish they were cheaper! I just recently got the XS pac-o-bird and even that was pretty painful financially. I was glad I had food staples stocked up. But it is a beautiful carrier, and not make of asphyxiating plastic. Hopefully it's a one time deal for you. They have special add-ons for chewers.

I have one of those travel cages still in the box that I never used. I'd ship it to you if the shipping to Canada wouldn't cost more than the cage did.

Cool! SUre! Thank you! **HUGE Hugs** :D

Find our how much it would be to send it from Windham, Maine to wherever you are. It's 20x16x12 and the bar spacing is a bit too wide for my budgies. I bought it on Amazon for $50 to take Joey to Vegas but American Airlines won't let birds fly and never took it out of the box.

It's asking for your zip code and other information, as well as an approximate weight of the package.

I rigged up something similar. My disassembly expert had taken or chewed apart his carriers. I replaced perch her foot size. I still have it for emergency use. This is my backup.

That's what I was afraid of. Shipping US to Canada or even Alaska (just ask rico_tiel) is outrageous. I can ship Maine to Los Angles cheap- just don't cross that border. I guess I'll keep it.

How's your Canadian summer? I love Canada and the way things are going here in the US were seriously thinking of become expatriates. I wonder if Canada (Nova Scotia specificy) would let us bring our budgies over the border

Yeah... shipping is a pain sometimes :o

As for our SUmmer... it has been a hot, dry one this year. Lots of wildfires in Manitoba. As for bringing a budgie over the border, I'm not sure how things happen. I think they have to go through a quarantine station, but don't quote me on that.

ETA: My Google fu skills found this:

To move a budgie from the USA to Canada, you'll need an import permit from the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and potentially a CITES permit if the budgie is a protected species. The bird must be accompanied by the owner and a health certificate, and quarantine may be required.

Jeez! That would be 19 health certificates! I guess we aren't moving to Canada.

Ouch! Too bad they can't do just one certificate for the flock :(

Well, I had an adventure getting my new bird carrier/cat carrier today! I ordered it... It arrived from PetSmart and I got everything.... but the cat carrier. No... HALF of the cat carrier. I got the grate and kibble to keep it locked up, but heavens to Betsy, I was missing the actual contraption! That required me to head back to PetSmart on my own, in 90°F heat (32 °C), by bus. The good thing was that they knew exactly who I was and were expecting me, LOL!

Now everything is put together and looking nice. I love that it's a top-loading crate. Easy for the birds to look out of :) .

The poor cats, though,... locked in the bedroom almost all day while I ran around. AT least it's nice and cool in the room. I'm cooking beside the computer! Plus, the cats got new cat litter! :D

Just thought I'd post the new cat/bird carrier I got from PetSmart. It cost me $50 CDN or thereabouts:
