Have you decided on a plan for training your support bird? It be interesting to see.

I've already started taking her out to expose her to different animals, people, and whatnot. Planning on a harness, so I'll try to train her to that over the winter. It takes 2 years .. as long as 4 to train. a service dog. Vortex won't have to be as heavily trained, but Istill need 3 tasks to train her to do. Might start voice training her ... hope she picks up something new.

Now I am really interested. I know service dogs need to be able to do things. Mine monitors my health. He started at 6 months when I had a mild stroke. No visible signs. Just severe headache and blurry vision. He kept nuzzling me and crying. Well I went to ER after several days because of headache not him. I was shocked when the doc told me. She was shocked because I only had a headache and blurry vision. I began watching him watch me. He gets touchie feelie, I check me. What can you teach a bird? Bring something? Don't know what Nameliss would be good at. Unless it's telling everyone to shut up, sit, down, paw, go to bed and asking if you gotta go to the bathroom.

So the new green cheek came home today. The guy was really focused on his money! He was polite tho, and helped me bring the cage to my apartment. I'm calling him/her Quasar. They're a year old and seem to have been on a seed-only diet. I've already started them on a mix of pellets, seeds, nutriberries, and an almond, which they were baaaadly wanting but were too afraid to take from me. They're bold, but it's only been an hour, LOL!

I beleive in the states, a service dog has to be able to do 3 tasks. I'm taking that advice and gonna train Vortex to alert me to when my alarm goes off (i don't always hear it) when I have to take medications... and I've got to talk to my fellow service animal handler about other ideas for them to do.

I am definitely a yarn-a-holic. My sister gave me a tee shirt that says...I crochet to justify my yarn addiction. If I see yarn at garage sales, thrift stores it comes home with me. I check sales at craft stores. Thankfully I don't have to feed, walk, entertain or clean up after yarn.

I have enough room for 2 cages ... okay, one, now, but it requires me to Tetris cat stuff, boxes and a lamp

I don't have to train Nameliss as a service bird! She's trained. She has her 3 chores plus one (1) I get reminded to go to bathroom especially at bedtime. (2) I get asked if I went to the bathroom randomly during day. (3) I get asked if I took dog outside randomly and especially at night. (4) I get told to go to bed and goodnight around lights out. I am nagged until my light is also turned off. I have to at least pretend to go to sleep. So would she qualify? Is there a test?

I think she qualifies! Sadly no test, though I believe keeping poop off things counts. XD!!
