Drooping and Swollen Lovebird Wing

Hi Everyone!

My male lovebird Milo has had a droopy wing with a lump for about a month now. I did see a vet and he said he thinks itā€™s a fractured wing and prescribed Meloxicam and Enrofloxacin. After finishing the meds my bird still appears the same and Iā€™d say his wing lump is even bigger now. He didnā€™t recommend an X-ray because he said even if itā€™s taken to confirm the fracture thereā€™s not much to do except just wait for it to heal which can take a very long time but how the lump will most likely stay and he might not fly again. To me itā€™s surprising to believe nothing can be done and how a fracture would cause such a big lump. Not sure if anyone else has had experience with a similar situation or has advice?

I think you should call the vet and tell them your bird is no better, or maybe go to a different vet if one is available. I canā€™t see the lump too well, but the whole wing looks thicker. And heā€™s holding the wing like it hurts.

Please get this looked at as soon as you can.

How is your bird behaving? Is he eating and drinking well? Active? Sleepy? Grouchy? Keep him happy and comfortable and please get his wing looked at.

Heather is right. I might add make sure yu see a Certified avian Vet, not a cat and dog vet. Birds are special and need special training to treat them. A lump thats getting bigger over this amount of time is not something that just goes away.

I donā€™t want to speculate but there could be at least a few different problems going on. Any of those problems needs to be addressed before you lose the wing or the bird.

Thank you everyone! I really appreciate your responses. Iā€™m going to try to see a different avian vet this week for a second opinion because I agree I think thereā€™s more issues happening. So far heā€™s eating fine and is active and Iā€™ll continue to keep an eye on him until my appointment.

Iā€™m glad heā€™s eating well and active. But Iā€™m worried about the lump and the wing. I hope heā€™ll be ok.

How is your lovebird doing? I hope heā€™s ok.
His lump is a tumor :( I had a feeling it was more serious then what the first vet told me especially since it was getting bigger.

I am very sorry to hear that. Poor birdie.

Can you have the lump removed? There are a couple of birds on this forum that have only one wing from cancer.

Take care.
