Umbrella Cockatoo- 15? years old..I think?
I don't have an eclectus,..I thought they were one of the birds for which pellets were not recommended...I may be totally wrong....
In general, parrots have many more unsafe foods than just avocado (which is very bad)...chocolate, caffeine, salt, sugar, artificial sweeteners, excessive citrus, certain nuts, rhubarb...the list goes on.

Yeah, don't recommend pellets for eclectus. Some do fine on it but usually not. If you insist on pellets I suggest a corn free variety such as TOPs. Definitely NO Zupreem. NO colored pellets, NO fortified pellets.

Hello Heedless,

This question was answered in the prior thread where you asked this exact question.

The answer is emphatically NEITHER. Heed...this, very closely.

A fresh Veg/grain/fruit diet is what your boy needs. If you want to supplement the diet with some pellets, you need to go with TOPs pellets, one of the very few pellets that don’t have added vitamins, minerals or dyes.

Your eclectus has special dietary requirements. If you don’t intend to meet this diet, an eclectus is not for you.

[ ] some kind of Squash (include seeds)
[ ] brocolli
[ ] dandelion greens
[ ] red bell pepper (seeds included for all peppers)
[ ] orange bell pepper
[ ] green bell pepper
[ ] Red Lentils
[ ] Green lentils
[ ] green beans
[ ] yam

sometimes topped with: flax seeds, chia seeds, pumpkin seeds, and oats.

this is what I generally use for my boys chop as I've found it's what works best for him and haven't experienced any toe tapping or wing flapping with it. However each time I make it I add in different spices to give it more flavor and sometimes I prepare it differently so he has different textures and doesn't get bored.

He also gets occasionally treats of; green grapes, Apple sauce, pomegranates, TOPs bird bread, dried peas, almonds, scrambled eggs, etc

I cook them, it usually just requires cutting them in half and putting them face down on a baking sheet and cooking for some time. varies between variety. Also this site is very helpful;

Squash, broccoli, lentils, green beans and yam all need to be cooked.

Lentils are pretty easy. 1 cup of lentils to 3 cups of water. I usually do a little less than 2 cups of green and red lentils combined. they can cook together. Put the water and the lentils into a large/medium sized pot and set the heat to medium and bring the water to a boil. Once it's boiling cover the pot and lower the heat for ~15 minutes. Make sure the water level stays above the lentils.

With the green beans and broccoli I just steam them until I can stick a fork in them.

Yams I boil until I can stick a fork in them too.

edit: forget to mention to RINSE the lentils before cooking. I usually put them into a large bowl with some cold water and swirl it around until the water is rather cloudy, pour the water out, refill, swirl until cloudy, dump, and repeat until the water doesn't get cloudy. It's a pain in the butt but yeah.

Actually, broccoli, squash and green beans can be served fresh.

But a blanching - no more than 1.5 minutes in boiling water - would benefit most vegetables (not lentils), especially those with copious beta carotene

Great advice, handy heard this before :) it also forms the basis for my supplemental recommendation: SPROUT THEM.

At minimum soak them for 12 hours. But if you can go the full sprouting procedure for a couple days, then cook for 20 minutes you will release a ton of very healthy nutrients that otherwise wouldn’t be available.

All the sprouting without the bacterial question marks.

you might not have to trash all of it. Seed mixes can still be used in limitation. Pistachios are okay.. kind of hard to see everything on my phone. Only thing not great for them are pellets. everything else in moderation should be okay

Agree with owlet completely. The big bags you have (volkmans, etc) can be given as treats - or as a topper to your fruit and veg. Not a main meal, mind you. The soak and serves can also be treats.

Throw out the Zupreme immediately.
