With two very young kids as well as parrots and dogs and etc etc we are thinking about hiring a maid service to come out and do a deep clean once a month. I had a local branch of a fairly large chain come out and give us an estimate and they included the cleaners they use - the brand is a professional brand called Ecolab.

I can’t find any info online as to its pet or parrot friendliness. I did confirm that they don’t use aerosol cleaners, and told them I don’t want them to use anything with perfumes or fragrances (which they put in the estimate document).

They offered an alternative for the floor cleaner - Ecolab Oasis is the product they use, but if I prefer they can use vinegar and water instead. I’m leaning toward that as it what I’d have used myself.

I do plan on moving the birds into their backpack carriers and putting the cages and tree stand outside on the patio so that none of their things come into contact accidentally or otherwise with any cleaning agent.

If anyone has any experience with any of Ecolab’s line of products do let me know! Otherwise I can sign a waiver and provide my own cleaning products, or sub for vinegar and water. In addition to the floor cleaner they use Ecolab’s window/glass cleaner, metal polisher and bathroom cleaner.

They did provide MSDS but I’m not sure what to look for, and it doesn’t list non hazardous ingredients like perfumes (although it does indicate if they have a scent, and most of the not non scented stuff is listed as citrus).

I wouldn't allow her to use any chemicals unless you have spoken with an avian vet about it. Did you discuss things like windex, bleach, lysol polishes etc being totally out of the question?

I doubt the ecolab one is safe---I mean, that is what they use in a lot of public restrooms and it is a chemical and it has a scent.

I would specifically list the only products you want them to use. Do not leave it open-ended as that is far too subjective.

Here are the chemical specs for the wood floor cleaner (main ingredients are 2 types of alcohol and isopropyl is definitively a respiratory irritant (I'm sure the other is as well)---not sure if they are listing "fragrance" --It's going to be all through the house: https://safetydata.ecolab.com/svc/GetPdf/?cntry=US&langid=en-US&sid=903733

Here is the "high performance ultra concentrated neutral" cleaner which is a huge NO based on product specs-- https://safetydata.ecolab.com/svc/GetPdf/?cntry=US&langid=en-US&sid=914993 (fragrance, +alcohol, +other stuff= bad news)

This one is super bad---"maxx dual action floor cleaner bright speed" https://safetydata.ecolab.com/svc/GetPdf/?cntry=US&langid=en-US&sid=910682-05 (flammable, burns skin, fragrance etc)

EDIT: Just found your variety:

Not all quat concentrates are bad for birds (F10 is a quat) BUT it comes down to very specific science that a vet might be able to tell you more about---here is one red flag "If inhaled : Remove to fresh air. Treat symptomatically. Get medical attention if
symptoms occur."

Thanks noodles! Sigh. I guess I will just let the dream of someone else coming and deep cleaning my toilets die

if you have a really experienced avian vet (not exotics but certified) they might be able to tell you if you read the list off to them. Can your cleaning peoplew not use vinegar and water per request?

I think they indicated they'd use that for the floors, but I don't know if they are willing to use just vinegar and water for everything.

In the end I decided it would be smarter to just invest in a new vacuum cleaner for now. :D :o I don't really care about metal polishing and a lot of the other things they do as their standard package. Sorry for wasting your time with my pipe dream ^_^; Maybe I can revisit the issue in a few months and contact some other folks - I found out there's actually a few chemical-free cleaners here that I didn't think to contact.
