Oh my goodness! What a GREAT day I had with DeRita!
FINALLY I got to have the house to myself for a while and of course the FIRST thing I did was go get DeRita! First time I have held her since bringing her home.
She is VERY good about stepping up and coming out of her cage. I could tell the moment I opened the door, we weren't going to have any trouble what so ever. I had a pile of dishes to do and I thought it was a perfect opportunity to have her come hang out with me and check things out. I put her on the cage top with the play stand area and she really enjoyed that!
She climbed and walked from cage top to cage top and REALLY enjoyed my sage plant.
My daughter stopped by and DeRita was soo nice. Gab offered her some treats and DeRita was the perfect angel. We didn't push or pressure her, just let her hang out on the cages and talk with us.
She really got into laughing with my daughter and I...and I just don't think there is ANYTHING that tops an Amazon's laugh....it's contagious!
I could tell when DeRita was tired and ready to go back to her cage, she leaned forward and fluttered her wings and I offered up my hand and she stepped right on, no problems, I put her away, she got all comfy in her cage, started grinding her beak and promptly took a nap.
Made me sleepy listening to her grind her beak and watch her doze off, absolutely content. My heart barely fits in my chest these days!
I made her a couple shredding "toys" stuffed toilet paper rolls with paper...she absolutely LOVES them.
So here is a couple pic's I took...I'm HORRIBLE about taking selfies, but I HAD to document the moment of holding DeRita for the very first time.
So since she has been here, she has willingly went to my husband, my son got her out for breakfast without issue and I was able to have her out most of the day while the guys were gone.
She has body language very similar to our conures, but much more obvious even. I actually trust her more than them! LOL So far, she hasn't been a "faker" like...yea I want to go with you and WHAM...changed my mind...type thing. I love her, love her, love her and most of the time, I don't even notice that she is 1/2 naked. My eyes only see hearts when I look at her! hahahaha
Well have a great night all!
