Hi-I am new on here, from Southern Indiana.
I am owned by 2 African Greys, a baby Umbrella Cockatoo and a Black Palm Cockatoo.
I just lost another Umby 2 months ago. She was 7 and my vet and I believe she died from 'fright flight'. She sat next to a window on the 2nd. floor and a HUGE owl has been seen flying around the house.
Almost lost my Palm due to his not eating after going into deep mourning over our loss.
After placing a mirror for him to see himself and pictures of his beloved Butterbutt close to him he has finally pulled out of it.
NOW my worry is my two Greys. I have noticed that Jiya , age 14,has been continually flicking his wings and shaking his head, biting his nails and scratching his head.
Just took both to the vet for complete workup but results not back yet.
She warned me could be very serious.
Jiya eats like a little pig, plays, talks up a storm and lives to bite me. He sits under his UV light and gets a wonderful mixture of high quality of seeds, nuts, fruit, veggies, chicken and his favorite...chili or spaghetti once in awhile. (all the birds get the same, have lights and toys and large cages).
My other Grey, Billybird is sitting a little puffed up but that is not too unusual for him. He is 9.
I just moved them from their upstairs birdroom to a birdroom downstairs.
I just switched them from Sunfun mix to Hagens and he loves it!
They have partial access to a window and also a wall. I keep a tv on low for company, a dim nightlight. I sleep directly across the hall (huge Victorian).
I live alone and am retired so here 24/7 and they have 3 doggy brothers and 1 doggy sister who they are used to and are not bothered by.
My bird books say the flicking is normal for Greys.
Have you all seen this behavior in your Greys?
I am so paranoid about losing another of my feathered 'fids'.
