Fluffy GCC, is this normal?

My new GCC, Chubby, is fluffy. I mean, he has been since I brought him home. I figured it was because he was stressed and everything, and he is still a little shy and unsure of things, but he is puffy, hence why we called him Chubby.

He eats and drinks normally, tries new foods, he is active and he plays, etc. I read online that a bird who is puffy is sick, but he doesn't seem sick at all. His droppings are normal as well.

He un-puffs if something startles him or really interests him. Is this normal or should I worry? Sorry, new mommy paranoia is setting in.

Like you said Puffy usually means sick.
I would take him to the vet ASAP.

Birds usually do not show signs of sickness. Your bird being "puffy" is usually a sign. They go down hill pretty quick

He is either sick or cold. Is it below 70 degrees F in his room? If it is warm in your room he might be sick.

It is exactly 70 degrees F in the room. Now I'm going to freak out. All the vets are closed for the night what do I do?? I can't lose another baby so soon I'll just die :'(

It's been going on since you got him, right? So I doubt waiting the night will really hurt. First thing - Relax! don't panic your birdy. Second, call and make a vet appointment. New birds should really get an initial check up anyways.

How long have you had him? Did he come with a warrenty from the breeder? Is it already passed? Warrenties are usually void if you don't go see a vet within a ceritan number of days anyways, but they're good to keep in mind if you have one.

Either way a vet visit will only hurt the wallet and give you piece of mind, which I think is a good trade.

*quick edit* Your bird is eating, drinking, playing and otherwise looking Ok. I'm posting the above making the assumption that you've had him over a day. If you've only had him a day or two, I would A) contact the breeder/store you got him from then B) vet.

My macaw was almost always fluffed up when I got her if I was paying attention to her.

Aren't there any emergency gets in the area, or at least within 3-4 hours? If there is an emergency vet within 2 hours then just take him in, if there is one within 4 hours turn up the heat a little and if in 30 mintites that doesn't help then take him to the further away vet.

I'll try turning up the heat, the closest vet is about 5 1/2 hours away, we live in the boonies (emergency vet I mean).

Here is a picture of what I mean by "fluffy" he looks like this most of the time unless I take him out of his cage to play, or if something startles him or intrigues him he will get less fluffy.

Safira, sorry I just saw your comment. He just arrived here very late Tuesday night, around 4am. He was pretty stressed out and tired what with the 10 hour plane ride and 4 hour car ride home.

If my guys are just relaxing they'll fluff up like the picture you posted and grind their beaks a bit, don't stress =) if you're worried take him to the vet, I'm sure you'll get more input when people see the pic!
Had to do the conversion of fahrenheit, he might just be a little cold, its my understanding that conures are tropical birds? Where I live in summer its usually between *converting* 86-100 degrees with 90% humidity (Australia can be hot ), which is hellishly hot and they're never more active than then. So yeah, maybe just cold? =)
