Hi.

I have purchased several toys, made from cardboard cups, with colorful flowers, that seem to be made from sheets of a foam substance.

My question is; does anyone know if these flowers are made from the same foam sheets which are sold at Michaels Craft stores? They sure look exactly the same.

I know a photo would be very helpful here, but for some reason, I can't post any more photos.

Are you posting in here off your phone or from a computer??? I've been having a lot of issues with my phone lately after the most recent software update. I have to shut off my phone completely and restart in order to do certain stuffs on here including posting pictures.

Michele, I used to work at Michaels, and a lot of our foam shapes had a really strong chemical smell.

Yeah Terrys right. We bought a pack of the big sheets and they smelled horrible. They started giving me a headache right away. There are smaller foam sheets that are textured that don't have that chemical smell that I use. Also, the foam letters and small foam circles don't have the same smell either.

So would you guys say that if they don't smell, its OK to use them?

Mikey, I DEFINITELY can't post from my phone. (it worked ONCE, and then never again) and the last time I tried from a PC, it didn't work either. I guess I have to work on it.

Are you using Photobucket to post pics? I find it very easy and I ONLY access the forum via my blackberry.

On the foam shapes - are we sure they are safe for birds? I read on FB (I think) that it is only safe for smaller species. I've also read that styrofoam is very dangerous - are these foam shapes made of something different? The chemical smell or lack thereof shouldn't be the criteria for determining safety, I would think?

I can get such nice foam shapes but I am too afraid to buy them because of what I'd read.

I've read they aren't toxic but that a bird can swallow the pieces. So know what your bird is likely to do with their toys. And I'm not sure why those sheets smelled so bad (can't remember the brand but it may have been who made it that was the issue).

I guess I will have to try the Photo Bucket. I am HORRIBLE with technology.... Sometimes the phone rings, and I answer the calculator.

I'm almost positive that ive purchased several toys made out of that exact same sheet foam that they sell at Michaels.....I don't know. I'm not chancing it unless someone else has tried it.

The large nasty smelling sheets were from walmart, avoid those, we just tossed all of them out. The textured small sheets were from Michaels. They were on clearance and we grabbed couple packs, different textures and colors. Be careful with letters and shapes, just check they are not sticker back.

we fold them kinda like an accordion and put paper in between folds and use a thick heavy needle to pull thin twine or plastic lacing thru, beads on end to make tie off easy.
