1 African Grey "JJ" and 1 M2 "Lola" and my 2 yorkies...while not feathered they are still part of my flock!
Does anyone here sprout for their birdie babies? I have started with a variety of beans, seeds and legumes...but I was curious to see if anyone else is doing this.

I do it for Fiji. He seems to like it! Next time i'm going to order a seed mix from this company:
Sprouts for Animals

Nothing is too good for my birdy!

He is so sweet! What kinds of sprouts are you doing and having luck with?

Sprouting is AWESOME!! so easy to do and Nalani loves it!! One of the ways that helped her wean. I get a sprout mix from a local bird store. It contains black eyed beans, lentils, barley, peas, and a bunch of other safe and healthy bird beans/seeds.

I use GSE which is a grapefruit seed extract, it helps prevent fungus and mold. You can purchase it online, I found mine on Amazon for $10.

For the jar, instead of paying $12-20 for a sprout jar, I use any empty jars at home (spaghetti jar, nuts jar, sauce jar, etc.) and get tulle fabric or any net type of fabric and cut it to size. Then I rubber band it to the top as a lid and there you go, a sprout jar for less than 50 cents.

It's a lot of fun and birds LOVE sprouts. Which is great since it is so much more nutritious than just cooked beans...

So far I have done the pinto, black, adzuki and mung beans and they love them but I started reading on mustard seeds and I must have bought the wrong kind or something because after my rinse drain cycle and 4 days nothing sprouted and it smelled like a nasty toot after game day.... so now I am wondering should I just plant them in soil and feed them those sprouts?

I think the sprouts are so beautiful! and they look delicious!
