Hello everyone. Just new to this forum. Recently purchased 2 young Budgies for my kids. Had them a couple of days and noticed one of them has his toes pointed the wrong way. We noticed he does not move much and that he would fall off the perch the odd time. Have had Budgies in the past and never seen this before. Is there anything we can do to fix this or should we not be concerned? The Budgie is about 5 months old. I have attached a couple pictures for a better explanation of what is happening. Thanks in advance for any information or solutions.

This is one problem I would take to a vet. It certainly warrants more care in sizing the perch's required. jh

Would definitely get this checked at an avian vet. Where did you buy them from - could you contact the breeder/shop to see if they noticed any issues with the budgie's feet or falling off his perch - this info might help the vet work out the problem - whether it's something he was born with or something else. Was he using his foot normally when you saw him in the store and 1st brought him home?

I would second the vet visit--- as a side-note, those dowel perches can lead to other foot issues (bumblefoot)---I don't think that is what is going on with your bird, but for future reference, it's better to have more natural/uneven branches to distribute the pressure points.

this looks like something he had from birth.. i hope im wrong but from what i know there is no treatment for such problems
