Bronze Wing Pionus
What size perches should I get for Diamond? I'm looking at Manzanita and others sold for birdcage perches, and want to get the right diameter before ordering anything.

I understand that rope perches and "boings" can be larger because of the corrugations.

Diamond is a Bronze-Winged Pionus. His hatch day is April 24 IIRC, and I'm wondering if he will get any longer? I've not taken a tape measure to his stature, but he seems to me to be shorter than the 11 inches noted by Wikipedia.

The attached photos were taken June 12, so he was younger. He's gotten beefier but not longer since then.

Unless the perch is too smooth/slick, Diamond should be able to handle 3/4" to 1" diameter perches comfortably and even larger diameters if there is some texture to the surface.....

As to bird body sizes, unlike finished lumber, our feathered friends don't necessarily fit into any specific size chart specifications.....

Actually, early sizing measurements were determined from collected bird carcasses, then as veterinary medicine moved into avian medicine, measurements have been collected from their patient information, so, maybe not so much like humans, but there will be variations from bird to bird.....we humans tend to vary more than our feathered friends, so I wouldn't hold too much stead in specific charts.....use those as guidelines instead, and use your regular weight measurements for over weight and under weight determinations.....
