- 4 Cockatiels 2 males Chicken Little & Charlie, 2 Females Chiquita and Sweet pea. Yellow Sided Green Cheek Conure -Franklin and our now tame, rescued feral Pigeon - Belle.
So, the other afternoon, I decided to take Franklin with me to the pet store where I purchased him, to say "Hi." And to work on more socialization.
Frankie just LOVES his car rides and is really becoming quite comfortable with his outings.
The employees were super excited to see Franklin and he was such a good good boy, everyone held him and talked to him and he even handled himself very well when a couple excited and somewhat disrespectful young kids came up and forcefully reached out to pet him without asking.
But the funniest thing of all was this elderly woman. As I was leaving the store, she saw Franklin and asked if he was my bird. She asked his name and age and expressed how beautiful he is. Then she looked at him and said..."you are such a handsome boy!" And I said in reply..."ohhh...thank you, Iiiii ammmm..."
This woman absolutely startled me with her next response.
She looked directly at me, pointed her finger at me and said "You SHUT UP! I am talking to him, I love animals, just let me talk to him!"
I'm sure my eyes got super wide, I glanced over at Natalie, the store employee who named Franklin and her eyes were as big as quarters and BOTH of us were choking back our shock and laughter.
I stood quietly with Franklin on my shoulder, listening to this woman talk to him for a few moments, then...I guess she felt she had "bonded" with him because she reached out to see if he'd step on her finger and I was soo pleased when he showed his loyalty toward me by running and snuggling up to my neck
Have a good one,
Toni
