Hi Everyone,

was just wondering if all the GCC people have similar experiences with their birdie than I do.

My male GCC is 2 1/2 years old. Whenever I am home, I let him out of his cage. He is very active, nosy, playful, lovable and sometimes when playing wild also nippy. He talks and does tricks and is a real smart bird.

However, he is sticking to me like a magnet.... Can't go anywhere without him being immediately on me. I go to take a shower, he flies in the shower and wants to get wet as well... I go from one room to another and he follows me immediately. I got other birds before "Pico" and they were in their cage, then came and visit and played with me, then flew back to their cage. Not so "Pico the magnet".... LOL :32:

All that doesn't bother Me since I love him, but was wondering if other GCC behave the same towards their owners.

GCCs are pair bond birds :) they would be stuck to their mate in the wild as well. That's why it's so important to actually TEACH them to play independently, because most won't do so on their own.

Mine is just 6 months old and he is glued to me whenever he has the chance. I have had him now almost 3 months and am now encouraging him to take some independence. I have given him stations in each room where he is allowed and when he is out I take him to them and expect him to wait while I do what I need to, but there are plenty of times when I place him in his cage and go off without him, maybe in the garden or elsewhere inside.

Once I come back he is allowed out again. I understand that birds like routine but my own feeling would be that if it is too rigid it will lead to a disturbed bird should things change. So my plan is to try and keep him as flexible as possible so he is open to new experiences each day.

My 2 yr old female conure is also very attached to me after 4 days of ownership. If I move around the house she's on my shoulder. If I'm on the couch she is close by or on me in some form or another. I cant get much done or leave the house unless I put her in the cage. I do intend to try and train in some independence and luckily she will be doing a fair amount of travel with me as family visits always enttail a road trip.

Thanks for all your replies.

Well, Pico does have in every room a Playtop or Play area with water and food. And he does play a lot with his toys.... However, he is very observing what I do and as soon as I move, he moves with Me... ;)

As I said, I don't mind if Pico is "always" on or with Me, I was just interested if other GCC do the same....

I also interact with him a lot and try to teach him new things like words, sentences and little tricks which he learns eventually.

Thanks again for your input.
