Getting sick from your bird

I'll be as clear as I can and try not to be gross, but anyone ever get or hear of someone getting a severe case of diarrhea due to their bird?

Since the moment I've had my bird at home I've been dealing with such, and I've been careful about what I'm eating and following the standard diet protocol for such.

But it just dawned on my when this all started.

I know a bird can get someone sick, but mostly related to an allergic reaction which usually relates to nasal or breathing issues. I have had none of that since my regular visits and owning of Perjo. I've found nothing online relating diarrhea being due to contact with a bird, but I'm a bit concerned due to the timing.

Long ago, I learned to never say never! Having said that, the likelihood is fairly low.

Now, you have offered very little information regarding your parrot, not even how long you have had your parrot. Where you got the parrot, etc, etc, etc... But at this point, its not what is needed!

Humans commonly pass germs in volume between each other and it is just as possible, even more likely that your got yours from staff where you got your parrot or the facility itself.

Now basics! If this has been going on for more than a couple of days, you should already be on your way to a doctor, med center, or ER. Diarrhea can kill and should not be taken lightly! There are any number of human to human sources, some very serious. Enough Said!

Within 72 hours, even with you replacing the water that you are losing, the loss in body chemistry will begin effecting major organs!

Feel you should be on your way to the Doctor and probably useful to mention as well as everything else that you now have a parrot.

For those wondering, Perjo (AG) was brought home on the 13th of this month, so 4 days ago. And she came from a store.

I bet you've got the 'excitement poops'. (Lame attempt at a joke )

All kidding aside, if your bowels don't improve, you really should seek medical attention. Hope you feel better!

My main concern was that maybe I've ingested or inhaled extreme levels of dander and it effected me. I'm 60-70% better today, so I'll let the week play out and go from there. I was just hoping it had absolutely nothing to do with Perjo, and any adverse reactions to having her home.

I would have to say the two are unrelated. But if you are concerned I would see your doc.

I handle horses, goats, have had birds for 10 years and I actually have a great immune system lol.

I never get sick, my immune system is tip top, that is what made me worry it could be the introduction of the bird. I'm pretty much back to normal right now, so I'm going with a stomach bug of some sort.

Dander doesn't cause diarrhea. That just isn't a medically connected dot.

If the cage was nasty, and there was some sort of amoebic parasite associated with that I would assume it's possible. But it would have more to do with the bird living in filth, than the bird itself.

I tend to worry much more about infecting my birds, and rely on a good immune system. If your situation persists, definitely see a doc!

Mild case of Food Poisoning? More common than most realize. Comes on quickly and eases-up within 72 hours.
