God I feel so STUPID- Lost bird

She'll come down.

If she flew back to the house, she'll come down eventually.

Flying down is harder than flying up for most...

Wow! Just seeing this, Michael. I'm hoping that Birdell finds the nerve to fly back to you.

Please be careful up on that roof. The footing sounds dangerously tenuous, and Birdell is going to need you in one piece.

Oh My Word, how can you be calm?

I'm mentally exhausted and drained....The wind picked up to 10-15 mph and she went back out 400 feet from house in pines again after I took a chance and startled her to which she flew back to the house in a tree next to roof.
I could have had a chance then, but risky on a 48 degree 2 story roof metal and oil painted....

Thought about a lift truck, but could scare her and besides, ground is pretty soggy and mushy from all the rain, nothing will get back there right now.

Senegal's can be very stubborn buggers....mine has to be the worst when it comes to stubbornness, and recall is the same, stubborn.
Poppie and Greyson are good at recall, Vinney is also stubborn, ( my other BFA) but she had a rough life until I took her in. S0 she will take time.

Basically it's looking like I won't have a choice but to hope for the best because she may stay up there with no way of getting her down. She's at least 60 feet up there if not more. Pine trees have some brittle branches. So climbing up there is out of the question. I worry about Hawks and Owls...there are a few around.

Michael

Put her cage out where she can see it.

Hope she comes in or comes down lower before it get dark.

Hope the wind stays down tonight, and that it's a clear somewhat mild night.

Go out and call her down at first light, when the vocalize. By then she will probably be looking to be picked up... spending a night outside can be nerve wracking and traumatic... on everyone!

I climbed the ladder to see just how far off the roof the branch was, it was 5 feet out of reach if I would of been on the roof. So I didn't chance it. besides the wind picked up to 10-15 mph from being calm earlier and Birdell flew back out by the pines 400 feet from house. She's at least 60 feet up.

Not good....Pines are not good to climb with the brittle branches.

Recall is not good with birdell.....sometimes she will, most of the time she's too darn stubborn...then Senegal's are.

Recall is an inexact science anyway...

I've seen birds that had free flighted for decades, just suddenly never come back. Did they get hurt? Did a predator get them? Or did they just keep going one day?

You never end up knowing the answer to that question.

Already done, water and favorite food as well. Time to go back out and do some more talking...Suppose to rain tonite, small chance but it is clouding up and wind picked up...Not a good thing.

Well, if it starts to rain, go outside and call her. See if she'll want to come down, and come inside where it's warm and dry at that point.

As long as she's still close by, and you can see her you are way better off than where I was the FIVE times I lost Tusk...

Sweepea has gotten lost free flying, but all I have to do is listen for her, because she'll call for me to come get her.

I just had an idea...and sorry if someone mentioned it already.

Is Birdell fond of any of your other fids? If so, can you take one of them out so she can see him/her? (Of course make sure the other one doesn't get away!!!! Perhaps in a carrier of some sort? Contact calling???)

So, so, sorry. Thanks for posting, this is like a warning for me, I'm out on the porch every morning with Princess Storm on her parrot stand drinking her juice and me in my rocker drinking my coffee. She hasn't been clipped in a while. Plans are to get this aviator harness that's all the rave. So until I get it and can put it on her correctly, she'll be inside looking out the screen door.Hoping the best for you and Birdell.

That's a good Idea actually.....of course in a carrier cage.

Re: Update on Birdell- She's gone !

Thanks everyone for the support, you are all lovely and know I'll always have your back in need as well.....

The update on birdell...........She's gone. I mean long gone!!

I went back out to check on her about a half hour before the sun set.
She gotten startled and took off, she flew the opposite direction towards house but keep going across road and large field. I tracked her with the Binoculars till I could no longer see her with those. She kept going. Good mile away at least.

I went looking walking the field and checking trees till I could no longer see....it was too dark. Chances are she's within a 2 mile radius. Still it's going to get chilly tonite. Just above freezing for the low. About 35 to 36 And a brief wind. I'll get up before crack of dawn and go hunting. But
it's been a tearful evening for my wife especially and even me as it's our first parrot since Trixie ( our Major Mitchell Cockatoo Died 2011 at age 68)

I haven't given up hope and flyers are out in area. Just don't have a good feeling about it and feel like a terrible parront. Terrible evening it has been. Even My Grey sat on Birdell's cage tonite quietly and that set my wife off in tears. He knows something isn't quite right, Greys are very in tune with emotions and he's such a lovely guy.

Everyone Hug their birds, you never know if it'll be the last...

Thanks everyone...

Michael

:( I wasn't on the forum today following this but I am so sorry Birdell has gotten lost outside. I hope she finds somewhere to hunker down for the night to give you and your wife time to get some flyers made up and contact the neighbors. Hoping she'll be returned safely soon!

Thanks....I'm hoping. Lots of hawks in area.

If it was an amazon you'd hear it a mile away...a senni is rather soft in calling....but you can hear it if within range.

I'm sending hugs, please note they are extremely sensitive hugs too. I have emotional issues here with my flock and I want all flocks to be perfect and happy
Did you take her cage out like Mark suggested? I am praying for you and your flock tonight.

Yes I did, with food and water.....will put Greyson in carrier in morning and go searching for birdell at crack of dawn.:D:rainbow1:

As for Hugs....my birds love hugs and kisses...they wake with hugs and kisses and go nite nite with a hug and kiss...
I don't even have to ask, they run up and give me one. I love my birds.....

I am so so sorry to hear this, but I believe you will find her. If this collective mind thing works at all, I think there are many of us hoping and believing with you. At least you know in which direction to look. Please keep us updated!

Just want you to know, I have been following this since you first posted it. Have not said anything yet because I am counting on you to recover your baby.

UGH! I had my heart in my throat when I opened this thread, truly hoping to hear you were able to get Birdell. :(

Oh Michael, I am so sorry! I know you won't give up. I'm still hopeful you'll get her back.

Hugs from me, too...and to your wife as well.
