Hi,

I would like some advice on my pair of Green cheeked Conure's

I have had the pair for over four years now and never had any luck breeding them. They sleep in there breeding box (This is typical of GCC's) but never any eggs.

I purchased them from a breeder as a pair and was told they had laid eggs but never hatched any.

It has been suggested to me that they might be either both males or both females. I know the only way to know for sure with Green cheeked Conures is to get them DNA tested but I would like to know if anyone knows any slight diffrences between the sexes. I have always assumed that my male has more green on the cheek as "he" displays.

I use a standard square parrot box with no climbing structures inside. Would another shaped or nesting box type such as log help?

Thanks,
Clint

I honestly don't see any differences, and from the breeders I have talked to neither have they. I wish there were signs, it would make things so much better. I never suggest buying from someone who has not hatched viable chicks. Meaning they are hatched and alive. I have heard every excuse in the book "Oh they have the wrong nest box so they haven't bred for me", "They don't like my house", "They just don't hatch". I've even seen breeders stick other birds' infertile eggs in a pairs cage to make buyers think they lay eggs.
