Everything I'm seeing online with a quick Google search is the standard "better safe than sorry! Tomatoes are nightshades and green ones are poison! Red ones are too acidic!"

I'm not wondering about as a big part of the diet. Just an occasional small treat. Talking like, I'm already munching on green tomatoes and someone comes wanting a beakful. How bad would it *actually* be to let them try some? Not gonna give them any fried or pickled ones, just fresh from the garden.

I still have a hard time with this. My avian vet said tomato is a member of the poisonous nightshade family. Ripe given very rarely as a treat is fine. It was his teacher voice. At the time for a visit my CAG and I were munching happily away on cherry tomatoes. I would definitely not feed green tomatoes.

I would agree, avoid green tomatoes. Probably wouldn’t outright kill your bird but cause digestive upset and illness. Red tomatoes in small amounts, occasionally should be fine. My ducks literally eat a red tomato every night as their bedtime treat to lure them into the coop, but they are built differently than our exotic pet birds, lol!

Yeah I wasn't sure cuz some of that stuff is just .... Parroted information (har har har) that doesn't really have any proof behind it, or overblown risk, and then other stuff is deadly serious risk. So many parrots love them some lasagna, spaghetti, pizza, etc that obviously red tomatoes aren't actually that dangerous lol. Alright, no green ones 👍🏼 cool

I agree. My CAG will climb mountains aka chairs to the table for pizza and pasta. She prefers veggie pasta to spaghetti. I try to limit pizza to crust. But an eye blink and I loose. Ravioli is a loosing battle. Like every thing moderation is the key. The rarer the better. Plus it's good for weight loss, lowering salt and cholesterol, heart health improvement every thing pro health and anti enjoyment!

I know green tomatoes are poisonous to dogs. I would say avoid green tomatoes with our companion parrots.
