1 Alexandrine & 5 cockatiels
Day before yesterday we awoke to an egg in the Cockatiels nest box. We are all very excited. My grandson 11 yr. old was spending 5 days of his spring break with us and got to peek in to see it. Hammer ( our female) has spent the majority of the day in the nest , and I have observed Nails ( her mate) going in the nest and relieving her of sitting on the egg so she can get some food and water. Its all very sweet! She should be prepping to lay another egg anytime now. Our little couple is named Hammer and Nails. My husband says he is going to call the first one hatched either Chisel or Screwdriver .......🤣
:grey:Nails and :yellow1:Hammer

Congratulations @Niteldy, I'm SO looking forward to seeing some pics and sharing in this blessed event! Tee hee, Hammer and Nails, what great names!! 😄

I am not an expert but I have raised 2 clutches of Cockatiels.
It seems odd to me that your birds would start to incubate with only one egg.
Normally incubation does not start until about the 3rd egg..
good luck.

Oh, that’s interesting! I think poultry will just sit and lay and that’s why hatches tend to stagger a bit. Could be wrong, or the hens we always had could have just been nutty!

With the first clutch I was worried because the parents didn’t incubate right away.
I did some searching on line and most of what I found said a delay of a few days does not hurt the embryos and helps to keep all the hatchlings closer to the same size.
