Hannah's little Parrots thread 🦜

Hello everyone!
Gosh it’s been almost a year since I’ve last been on here, just thought I’d pop in and say hello!
I hope everyone and their birdos are well? What’s new?
I’ve had a pretty busy year, new job, lots of family visits from the U.K. And I’m 6 months pregnant šŸ™€!

My aviary flock are all happy and well, There has been a couple of bushfire scares this year which is always a worry with so many animals, Having non tame birds isn’t ideal during those times. Thankfully we didn’t have to evacuate in the end.
I haven’t taken many photos of them recently but looked back a way and found a few photos for you.

Yes she is, and yes she is, all of the above! But i won't hijack your thread by going on here about how delightful she is, you can read about how she joined the flock on her thread if you'd like :)

Hello Sailboat!
Thank you so much, my quiet yet crazy animal life is going to get a bit more hectic with a human baby around
Glad to hear Julio is almost out of a hormonal stage..phew, I can only imagine how tough they can be!

Hello lovely Parrot Forum friends! It’s been a long time since I’ve done an update again. Life is busy now I have a human baby, He’s just over a year old now..time flies!
Wolfie and his gang are still happy and well! (3 ā€˜Tiels and 4 budgies) . They managed well during a very dry summer drought, And a now cold and frosty winter. Wolfie suprises me with his friendliness everyday, I don’t really spend much time in the aviary unfortunately yet he is always happy the sit on my shoulder, head or arm and sing to me. He even let me stroke his head for a second yesterday (he’s hand shy). The Budgies are mischievous and cheerful, always the first to explore new branches I put in the aviary. Percy and Gizmo the other two Cockatiels are much the same, still not into me at all. Which is fine. They are content being themselves and bossing the budgies around. They desperately try and form a stronger relationship with Wolfie, but he’s just not that interested. He prefers me. But likes being in their presence..just not impressed when they try and preen him or something lol.

I’ve lost a few animals this past year, due to old age or health related issues and some just out of the blue which has been very sad. From 8 Guinea pigs I’m down to just three! And I’ve lost 2 of my favourite little chickens.
The 4 horses are great, fat, unworked and happy haha. The drought was a huge struggle though, the cost of hay was extremely expensive which made life very stressful and struggle. But hey ho.. we finally have some green grass growing again so it’s nice seeing the horses grazing.
I’ve been busy making and putting bird boxes up over the property ready for spring. Lots of red-rumps, Eastern Rosellas, Galahs etc searching for nesting sites.

Hope the rest of you and your birds are all happy and well!
Hannah ā˜ŗļø

Welcome back @HannahandSunny, and congrats on your new arrival!! šŸ’ You certainly have been missed around here and I'm so glad to see you back, thank you for the update and all your beautiful photos, and I hope you will share some pics of your new bundle of joy very soon!

So nice to see you again, Hannah! You have indeed been missed. Congratulations on your little one! Time really does fly. Can't believe my youngest is 21 now.

Thank you for the update and pictures. Looking forward to more :)

Id love to build an aviary in my new Bird Shed but worry about metals. It looks like your aviary has metal mesh (hardware cloth) as part of the surround. Isn't that galvanized metal? All I hear is how that's dangerous to birds because they can get ingest tiny amounts and get metal poisoning. Stainless steel is way too expensive. Plastic (PVC) coated hardware cloth seems like an option.
Is galvanized hardware cloth a real or just hypothetical risk?
