hawk crashed on window

Last Saturday, I was reading some paper on my computer while my panama zon was taking nap on the playstand by windows. Suddenly I felt some shadow approaching fast towards my window. Then Bang! Guess what? A young hawk was trying to catch my Joe in the room and crashed on the window. The hawk was a little faint and standing on the ground right outside of the window, looking at me and Joe like" what the hell!" Joe was startled at first and then acted very agressive towards the hawk----I was surprised that he was not even afraid at all. The hawk took some break on the ground for a few minutes and flew up onto a branch nearby. He was there checking out and flew back and forth for about half hour. Finally he figured out and flew away. That's really funny.
I will upload some pics for that frusted hawk later when I go home.

Good grief!!! Thank goodness for the window and the fact that it wasn't opened with just a screen which could have tore or popped out.

Must have been one hungry hawk!

That's really funny actually. My window is really safe so I am not worried about. There are lots of hawks outside hunting squirrels.

I am glad that your bird and the hawk are ok. I bet the hawk does not do it again. They are smart and he learned a lesson. Good photos

Wow, that's freaky! I once had a Blue Heron come flying toward the window here in my bird room and that huge thing scared all of us. It's not a predator, but the size of thing made me jump and made my birds scream. At the last moment it went straight up, over the house and landed in a tree in my back yard.

Last fall though, right as I came out the back door, a hawk came down about 10 feet from me and took a little ground hog that had been living in my shed. That was the closest I've ever seen one. It just looked at me and then flew away with that ground hog that was honestly bigger than it was.

Great photos. Be aware that hawks can break through window screening, and snatch your birds. It happened to a friends African Grey. He was there, and grabbed the Grey while the hawk had him. The hawk let go, and flew off. The parrot was okay. Just scared, and only a little hurt. But, they do go through the screens. Be careful with your birds near windows.

That is a beautiful hawk. I'm glad he didn't get hurt or go through the window.
Joe has that look as if to say "No, I would never tease the hawk....why do you ask?"

Puck isn't even afraid of hawks when he sees them. He might let out a little growl, and he'd probably be more scared if they got close though. He really doesn't seem to give a poop about big wild birds. However, if he sees a ceiling fan, or a helicopter, and he flips out!

My new birds haven't seen the ceiling fan yet. My conures never flipped out but they were always staring at it for while when it first went on on the first hot day. Of course you must turn them off when the birds are out of their cages as they can get hurt flying into them.

They did once flip out when I had a nature show on TV and large snakes were featured. I had to change the channel.

Many years ago we did have a large owl that would dive bomb the chicken wire at my neighbor's house and ate all the ducks and chickens. No matter what my neighbors did to the wire, the owl could break through.

I once had a small bird of some kind break through a window screen and get in the house. I was at work. By the time I came home there was nothing but a pile of feathers. One of the dogs or cats got it. Then I found the broken screen and figured out how it got in. So yes, I guess a hawk could do it quite easily.

Oh wow how freaky! You gotta love that first pic. He looks so confused! I love seeing them in the wild, but I think I'd feel differently about one if it was trying to make a lunch out of my little baby! Better back off Mr. Hawk....

Well, this thread really made me think about all this. If a little bird got in my house once, a hawk definitely could. And the hawks around here aren't afraid to take ground hogs out of my yard right in front of me. I had forgotten about that long ago little bird that got eaten by one of my other critters after breaking through the screen until I read this. I think that happened more than 15 years ago.

Agreed. When the birds are out, the windows will be closed. I'm also not going to put them in front of that big picture window in my kitchen. That's the one the other bird broke through and birds crash into it on a pretty regular basis. The ones in this room are kind of blocked by the front porch and a Cherry tree. But, sometimes little birds land on them and look at my parrots. My recently passed BC conure seemed to sort of be friends with some of them. I noticed it was the same 2 or 3 that would keep coming to "visit" with her.

it just shows how intellegent they are, visiting other birds, that must have been adorable to watch, but and poor birdies crashing into the window, i heard you can place post-it notes or something similar so birds know they cant fly through it. i once saw a show about a hawk that swooped in on a cockatoo during a bird show, but everyone was ok. also at my uncles house in Connecticut, ospreys pick up big striped bass, so he told us to watch out to be sure they didnt swoop down on my dog (to be honest she eats so much i dont think he could get a grip on the little porker ).
