Today is my 71st birthday and I'm very blue. Had to euthanize my middle-aged female Eclectus, Victoria, on Monday. She was with me since 2011. I've requested a necropsy. I have another 34 year old female Ekkie, Julie, who is also in mourning. Just wanted to share my loss with fellow parronts....

I'm so sorry! Not a very happy birthday, I'm sure. You two need to help each other through your loss. Do you have any idea that was wrong with her? Sometimes we need to end their suffering but it never feels completely right. I had to euthanize a bird a couple years ago after she had a stoke and it hurt so much to say goodbye and hand her over- moreso than a natural death. We are here to help you in your time of grief, friend.

Thank you for your kind words. I've had to do this a few time over the years but never for a larger parrot that was with me all the time. I'm awaiting the necropsy report.

I am so very sorry. Hopefully over time you and your other bird have had some relief from the grief.

Currently this is my situation as well. Had 2 chickens who were inseparable until one began to go blind and have balance issues. We lost her last Tuesday and the necropsy report ruled out every thing it "could have been", and confirmed what I sadly expected - a neurological condition.

Now I am constantly hovering over the other one, watching for signs and protecting her from the unknown. She is even typically going on car rides everywhere.

My children and I and Mynti sometimes forget Millie is gone. It's rough rn.

I sometimes still call the names of pets I've had for decades that are long gone. It's so very hard to loose a pet companion of decades. The older we get the harder it is. We know that we shouldn't bring another into our lives. I am 75. My CAG of 21 yrs was recently critically ill. She's well on the road to recovery. But the mental energy and mood swings I suffered were bad. I still twinge at each weight in. Picture your friend flying free and waiting for you to meet again. She can tell you how happy she is as you meet again.
