I use a flood light 200w that hangs above my girls cage. She loves sitting under it after a bath or when she is just cold.

You can get uvb lights that also work as a heat source when it is too cold to take your parrot outside for some sunlight. By using one of those lights you would be able to solve 2 problems with one light.:D

I work 10 hours a day so before I leave I give him fresh water, food with fresh pineapple and apple and I put the radio on low for him if I do use a heat lamp I think I'm gonna put it on a timer I heard they can get heat stoke is that true?

If you have a small cage and you hang the lamp above him then yes I would say that he can definitely overheat. My girl is in a huge cage and have a tree next to her cage. She is clipped and therefore I never keep her locked in her cage and she can move away from the light as she pleases.

If your parrot has no way to escape the heat above the cage then I would rather heat the room instead. ;)
