Hello all! I joined yesterday because of a recent problem with my bird, but I thought I should also introduce myself here.
I have the sweetest Dusky Headed Conure named Helios, who I've had for 10 years, since I was 12. He's a sweetie but also quite the brat, but as they say, if a conure isn't a brat, he should go to the vet right away! He usually lives with my parents as I'm still in Uni, but has lived with my boyfriend and I for a few months as he recovers from a traumatic eye injury. He's doing well thanks to our wonderful avian vet and massive amounts of medication!
Before Helios met my boyfriend, I was worried that he'd be jealous; he hadn't taken well to previous ones, but he took to James instantly! Now Helios isn't content if he's not poking out of the top of James' shirt. Overall, he's a happy, health bird (except for thre recent accident).
We also rescued a zebra finch that I found in a laundry room a couple of years ago. He was sick, starved and almost dead, but James and I took him in, and our avian vet helped nurse him back to health. After a few months, he was healthy enough to have a friend. She said to get another male beacuse Schmetter(the first one) would always be too weak to breed and we should be carefull about him being bullied. We chose Apple, a young male zebra finch, and to our surprise, Schmetter turned out to be the boss! We love them to bits, but neither bird likes our attention, so we let them be. They do nothing by build nests all day. If we don't give them enough nesting material, they'll pull up entire sheets of paper from underneath the bars, which I'm sure weighs more than them. But at least they're getting exercise, right?
Anyway, that's enough for now. I could go on forever about our birds, but I'm sure everyone here can
