Hi, everyone! I've been a lurker here for awhile and have really enjoyed and benefited from so many threads. Thank you all for sharing your experience and knowledge.

I've had quite a bit of experience with young parrots in the past, having been a hand-feeder, baby trainer, and flight instructor for a now defunct pet shop that was actually doing it right (which turns out to be unprofitable). Now I foster birds for a rescue organization - teaching basic manners, improving diet, and screening/training potential adopters before slowly acclimating the birds to a new home.

My newest foster is an Amazon - a DYH, I believe. She has less yellow than those I've seen before, so I'm not 100% sure... it's possible she's a hybrid.

Welcome! I wish I could foster, it would be a way to get my parrot fix, but we don't want to stress Gus out - he's a rescue himself and still fearful. It's good to have you with us, looking forward to asking you some questions about birdie rehab...

Your DYH Amazon 'could' be a Yellow-Crowned Amazon. Hybrids with Amazons tend not to be as common as they are with MAC's and others. This likely due from the naturally wide cross-section /variation in plumage with in Amazona.

DYH Amazons, as a group, tend to have far less variation Parrot to Parrot. Maybe better to say, that if the Amazon you have has far less yellow then you have seen, its likely a Yellow-Crowned Amazons. Also, DYH Amazons have neutral colored (very light pink to no color) as part of their beak and nails. What color are your Amazons Beak and nails? Or, Picture Please.

Nail and beak color are why I suspect DYH rather than YC. Both are pink. Photos I've seen of the DYH from Belize seem to have less extensive yellow.

I have a few photos in my album but haven't figured out how to attach them from my phone. I did manage somehow to post one on a thread I started about Jojo in the Amazon section.
