Hello does anyone know what splits this normal grey female is??

i have pics and also if she were to mate with a pied what babies would they have i believe she is a female but she has yellow on her head is she molting colors or is that the effect of being split to something and also her tail is not normal here are the pics

I told you on how to sex before, look under the wings. What you got is a heavy pied, more like grey pied. I've seen mainly heavy pied males like that one you have, my last two batch of babies I've had 3 like that but all have been boys. Its hard to say what splits they have unless you know their parents and grandparents on both side of the family. My male is a heavy pied whiteface and the mother is a cinnamon pearl. I have gotten heavy grey pied boys and heavy pied boys, pearl and pearl pied girls. My guess is my male have Pearl in his genes. So far I haven't gotten any whiteface offspring. Just make sure your birds are passed the one year mark before attempting to breed them please!

i looked under the wing and it has dots that go all the way up and near the body were alot of little lines that go to the bird body ill get pics later

A split doesn't have the visible colors of the parents, you need to know the parents to know what genes are not visible. Your bird maybe split to WF but because it's not visible you'd have to know the parents to know it was split to WF. Is that as clear as mud ? BTW your bird appears normalXlutinoxpied, no telling what other genes it may carry.

So, is a split just bird speak for saying they are heterozygous for that specific trait?

Pretty much! That's why you get certain color offspring that's not visible in the parents. It gets confusing trying to explain...like I said my whiteface pied is split to pearl cause baby girls turn out to be either Pearls or Pearl Pieds. And the Pearl marking is not visible on the father, but he might have molted out of it too...you really must know their bloodline to really know what they are.

One thing, the mother is Cinnamon Pearl. But usually baby girls carryout that split gene. I hope im explaining it right. I confuse myself explaining it too...lol....probably from lack of rest and working almost 80 hrs a week. Scrubbing tubs or cleaning at 2am. LoL
