Sun Conure- Jewel
Hello all!

My name is Timothy and I have just joined this wonderful forum. My wife and I have two beautiful small children and we are hoping to add to our family real soon. We have been researching and looking for a Sun Conure to purchase. They are great looking birds and we had an opportunity to meet a very friendly 3 yr old sun conure and we knew that was the type of bird we wanted! Maybe some day we will work up to owning a Cockatoo or Macaw. We are in the market for a bird cage, so if anyone knows of a great site to purchase cheaper bird cages, that would be great! We are hoping to spend no more then $500 on a cage. I am looking forward to joining in on the conversations in this forum! Have a great day!

Hey Timothy - welcome to the forum!

As a dad of two (almost 4 and 2 mos. how old are yours?), and husband of one, and the owner of a Sunny I have to say that they make a great addition to the family. And, I would think you should be able to get a cage that is adequate enough in size for like $300, you shouldn't have to spend $500 (unless you are outfitting the cage with toys and perches and such.

feel free to ask away, we are here to help.

I have a caique, which is bigger than a sun conure and I bought his cage off eBay for $200. It's HUGE for his size. I would recommend eBay or amazon. Just make sure the seller reviews are ok. :) or they have some kind of warranty/guarantee.

Thank you all for the great welcome!
TexDOT, I have a 3 yr old daughter and an almost 2 yr old son, and if my wife gets her way, probably a couple more to come!

We would like to get a pretty good sized cage that we can have multiple toys, perches and maybe even a sleep hammock. We want a good sized one to give our new bird an "escape" if he wants to be left alone. With small kids, my dog likes to hide under the bed when she is done playing. Our dog loves to play with the kids and the kids love animals, but lets face it, not many things on this planet have as much energy as small children! So that’s why we were thinking of getting an oversized cage, kind of his fortress of solitude if you will!
Our other thought was to spend around $200 on a 24x22x60 or 32x22x60 and then maybe spend a little more on getting a second bird gym/playground.

We have some time to do some shopping around. Our dog is a 6 lb yorkie and have recently breed her, she is due to have puppies in September. So our plan is to use the money from selling the puppies to start this new adventure with a Sun Conure! Although, I am having a hard time waiting to purchase.

Ravennessa,

You say your Sun Conure found you? Do you mind telling me the story behind that?
