In March of 2014 I purchased what was described as a fiery Crimson Rosella. He was four months old at the time and DNA sexed as a male. I feed him a cockatiel mix with spray millet as treats, and have kept a fresh circulation of toys for him to chew up every month when he is not splishing and splashing in his bird bath. He has grown quite a bit in this time span and put on brilliant blue flight feathers, which is why I call him Azul!
It has been difficult for me to find a lot of extended information about rosellas on the world wide web other than a lot of different websites telling me they are hard to tame. Thus, I came here looking for anybody that might have some helpful hints on rearing my new friend! Azul is very nippy and seems to like playing with me in ways that encourage biting, which I would like to avoid.
He was not hand raised and I feel like he has made a lot of progress as he now comes to check me out any time I let him out of his cage or walk into a room. I can get him to stand on my fingers for a treat after a lot of effort but that is the extent of what he will tolerate.
