I acquired my Macaw in 2020 and was told she was a 5 year old female Blue and Gold. The previous household had two boys (Robert and Patrick), and I know this because she screamed "No, No, Robert", etc. She lived in a room with my numerous German Shepherds going in and out. I tried to take time with her while working full time. Then my husband, who was a stroke victim, took a turn for the worse. He died the next year. I didn't have the ability to pay much attention to "Bird" aside from feeding. 2004 I moved, bought a larger cage which I placed in my patio, and tried harder with her. We shared breakfast, she had free access wherever I was and all was good. Long story short, raccoons began to break in to my patio. My partner and I would catch and relocate them. "Bird" began to love my partner and seek his attention. Then one night I woke up to her screams and found a raccoon in her cage. I chased it away, but I believe she was traumatized. I think she now relates me to the raccoon, because she is very aggressive toward me, but seeks my partner's attention. I don't know what to do. Any advice?

Welcome and be welcomed.

Parrots can change their allegiance to a given person for any number of reasons, most which are mysterious to us. But you can try to win favor by being the one person to offer her the favorite treat and trying to work with her to do some training and teaching. It may take a long time but be persistent and patient. Win her trust back. Its all about trust.
