B&G Macaw
My B$G has started what I think is regurgitating not vomiting every time he eats. He sometimes screeches whilst he does it or makes noises. I've had him about two weeks now and he has only just recently started doing it 3 days ago.
He really really goes for it though and it's scary to watch. He will no longer just eat his food. He regutatiges and then seems to swallow it again and sometimes leaves some on the food. I am not near him when he does this. He seems healthy in himself, still missing loads of feathers but those he has look alot shinier, cleanser and healthier.
I feed him a seed mix (he is a sunflower seed junkie and I'm trying to wean him off) and a mix of fresh veg and fruits daily.
He's semi tame. Says to me "come on then" when he wants his feathers scratched. He will come to me most times when I call him. He also sounds like he snores at night time which I have tried to monitor to see if it's a conscious noise or a respiratory problem. I have an appointment with a vet in a few days but I can't afford thousands of pounds worth of vet Bill's.

I'm really quite worried about him.

Thanks so much for adopting a rescue macaw! Are you able to upload a video of the regurgitation? (easiest method via smartphone and YouTube)

Is the appointment with a certified avian vet or equivalent? This may actually save money vs seeing an "exotic" practice without specialized training and equipment. A diagnosis may be arrived at swiftly and economically, leaving you with a range of options to contemplate.

Good luck, hope he will be well. Please keep us updated!!

He could have some sort of crop blockage or infection that's making it difficult to eat. Glad to know that you're taking him in to be looked at. In the meantime, perhaps trying giving him some smaller and softer foods. Sweet potatoes and bananas come to mind.

Welcome and be welcomed. Be sure to go to the macaw sub forum and read every single post written by birdman666, he is our resident macaw expert - the stickies at the top of the page are GOLD. Also useful is the stickies at the top of the Amazon sub-forum too. Lots and lots to read and learn, but worth every second of your time. Thank you for adopting this macaw, it sounds like he has found a good home.
