Budgies - Sprite & Marshmallow
I was giving my budgie, Sprite, her antibiotics (this was about 20 minutes ago), and I think she aspirated some. She started coughing, clearly trying to get something up.
She seems to be doing better right now. She's still coughing a little bit, but she was just kissing her mate, and playing with a toy. She's just ate some pellets, and she's grooming now.
I did notice some liquid on her cere before, and after that she started coughing less. I'm thinking she managed to get some out?
My question is, what should I do? Will she be able to clear it on her own?

Depend on the amount aspirated, if not too much she should be fine.

Look for signs such as ....
liquid running down the nose
Changed voice
These go away on its own

Difficulty Breathing is more serious
If she stop eating, she'll need to see her vet

You might already know this but just to be safe.....for the next time....

My avian vet recommended
1) using only new Syringe, the flow is steady, easy control, need slow flow to be safe
2) always placing the syringe side way so the flow, if too much, will hit the other side of her beak and not her airway.

Good luck

I agree with Emeral, take her to the vet again and describe what is happening. Also, ask your vet if it is okay to put the antibiotics in her food or water, so she takes it without realizing.

Okay, thank you very much! She is breathing and eating fine. She's actually not even coughing anymore, so I think she's okay.
