I'm about to adopt a conure at a local animal shelter. According to them, it's a 4 month old sun conure. But the more I look at it I'm starting to question its species. I'm thinking it could be a Jenday or Sunday but now I'm confused. I need some professional advice :) :orange:

Could be wrong but perhaps a Janday? I love these guessing games lol

Could be a baby sun or a jenday.... But I'd say a sun would have a bit more yellow/orange even as a baby?? Seems a little too green to me, so it could be a jenday. I'd say a 65% chance as a jenday...

Looks like a Jenday to me. Looks just like my "Bo" (a Jenday).

Jenday all the way, hehe that rhymes!

I vote baby sun. the colors on his head are still very dull as a jenday has brighter head feathers. and if im not mistaken i can see one yellow feather on his shoulderish area?! i guess the only way of knowing is waiting for him to mature i think the owner is right:) they have ALL green wings for camo when they're young and changes to yellow as they mature!

A LOUD ONE!!! Hehe

Here is a goood feather progression of a sun, not my video FYI.
I'm sort of voting sunday/jenday now after seeing this video...

I was trying to find this video, thanks! It's great seeing the transformation, so beautiful. Our sun is approaching the 7 month mark. Exciting time!

Your welcome. :) Sometime in my life I want a sun, or an Aratinga conure. They seem like such goofy birds. :)

that is a very nice helpful video, thanks for sharing:D

Your welcome. But all I did was find the video; thank the people who made it. ;)

I would have thought Jenday as well, but it could be a gold cap!!!

Very young suns look a lot like mature Jendays. I don't know if the transition always occurs at a fixed age, the bird in the video certainly had a lot more yellow already at 3 months. Here is a picture of some Sun babies:

I sorta think "a loud one" was the right answer! They are somewhat similar species anyway, and within a few months you should know for sure!

Jenday! Sunnies are mostly yellow or Orange. Jennies have Completly green wings check out Jandaya Parakeet - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
and Jenday Conures it says the difference.
:orange:

Might want to look up baby sun conures. Suns and jendays look near identical as chicks if you don't know how to spot the differences between them.

Gold cap chicks tend to be even greener than both suns and jendays.... although a high colored gold cap could look like a jenday.
