help setting baby bird cage

i have a baby blue nape parrot, and i was wondering just today if a clean rag would be just fine to put up as the bedding for their cage...

or should i put rabbit bedding instead..?

here is a picture of my baby BNP's..

as you can see, their bedding is a cloth.. i have encountered one time, one of them ate their poop...

please give me ideas on how to set up their cage...

When they are that young a lot of people use paper towels or a regular towel...by all means, be careful when choosing a bedding....make sure you research each kind because I believe some of them can be deadly to birds.....

Judging by the picture your baby is still to small for a normal cage. Might try to find something it can't climb on, fall, and hurt itself. Its going to have all the time in the world to do that later, when its a little stronger. Good luck.

I keep my young babies in a toy box. Just one of those stackable cube ones, i just use cat litter, the rice variety or recycled paper pellet type cat litter. Have been using it for 20 years without any mishaps at all. You can also use untreated pine shavings but it gets a bit messy when the chicks kick it out of the box.

Not until they start to practice flying or climbing out of the box do i put them in a small weaning cage with a perch down low so it's easy for them to climb up on. Everything is done in baby steps. That is also a good time to introduce some fresh soft foods to encourage them to eat on their own.

is it okay to use this bedding?

we have a lot of this at home..wood shavings as they cal it, will it be okay to use this for this age parrots?

Yes you can use that as long as it's not treated with any chemicals & is safe to use for pets. Although it's a bit messy to use in a cage but OK in a box & just line the bottom.

Thank you for getting them out of that cage! It's just not a environment for them being that age plus it's too small. I either use paper towels or wood shavings when I used to raise them. I prefer wood shavings, it's less messy in my opinion. Like pedro says, as long as it's not treated with chemicals.

what i am afraid of is, what if they eat the shavings? i've heard that its quite good to use wood shavings because when they poop, it dries fast, if not, the poop goes at the bottom of the cage, or box...

our shavings are 100% chemical free...

They're gonna chew the shavings, most likely they won't eat them. They live in tree trunks in the wild, they chew wood.
