Help with Britta.

Wow lots of advise for Britta =) I say get her on a good diet. She sounds like she would like to trust you but she is not sure yet. I wouldn't blow in her face, because i think it will break any trust she is building. I understand the things we do and how we handle our "children" is a matter of opinion and i respect that =). I think Barbara Heidenreich @ Goodbird, inc. is a wonderful bird trainer, you might look on youtube.com for her videos. Britta sounds like she is a little nervous to be away from her cage but it is also possible she was taught to stay on her cage. I would ask the previous owner, try to find out as much as possible. Then you can decide how to better handle some of the situations. If you are able to train in the morning when your bird is hungry that might help. When i first got Sierra i had to do most of it at night so i saved her favorite treats for at night, which turned out okay because Sierra is not a morning bird as i am also. Good luck i wish you the best with Britta. She will thank you for taking your time with her. Congrats!

Good :) how is she with you today ? ( pictures)

Britta is still avoiding me as much as possible (and my brother). She is very quiet too (hasn't made a peep in the last week). She eats like normal (most of the time at night), but just doesn't like interaction from me.

Most of the time, she perches like in the attached picture.

While at the vet, ask about tar & nicotine buildup on the feathers...if there is, when you can handle the bird, hand bathing it with Dawn diehwashing liquid should be on your list, you will probably have to do this 2-3 times, depending on the amount of residue.....

Feet & legs should be carefully washed also & while the feathers are soaked, after rinsing, look at the skin to see if there is any residue there.....

Thanks, I did ask the vet about this. He said for the most part it will just come off in time (and during molts).

I did give her a bath yesterday and used some natural pet shampoo–gosh was it gross. It seems to be slightly better today.

Thanks, Parrotdise!

I have switched her to ZuPreem Natural pellets (which she seems to enjoy). That's good!

Thanks for your encouragements! I'll be working with her...slowly, but surely.

When I first brought my Rosebreasted home [she was a year old ] but I was her first home . She was so scared she stayed on her waterbowl for a whole week [and im not exagerating] I didnt see her eating either,I called the breeder he said to bring her back to weigh her. But I didnt have to cause she started eating. Just letting you know how nervous mine was. You said she was in a smoke ridden house ,but what was more of her history [was she taken out?]
