Here's the scoop on the Poop.

I know this is a gross topic but its one of those that once you know, you will be glad you do its a nice way to keep a rough eye on our birdies health.
So this afternoon i was cleaning my parrots cage and was kinda shocked to find all thier droppings in the past day have been cherry red. I was freaking out because for the most part thier droppings are brownish or greenish in color. Well after i got over the initial freak out of bright red poo. I did some research and came across a page on the web which really helped.
I leaned the color of out birdies droppings can change drastically because of what they are eating. Well seeing as last nights meal consisted of carrots, cherry oatmeal, red bell peppers and red chilis, it made the red poo much more understandable. So since this site helped me so much i thought i would pass it on to ya'll too.

here's my worry after reading that. It says the poop isn't supposed to smell. Kevin's morning poop (its the only one I notice it in) STINKS. It's possible its just because his baby diet is so rich...

I know its a weird question mimi but what kind of smell are we talking about. Is it a kinda of smell like the remnants of its night meals or is it a potant really stinky smell, because i know that some foods can affect if your birds poo stinks when it is normally not supposed to. Also there are several illnesses that can affect it. So, depending on what kind of smell it is it may be someting more, but like anything else if it really worries you take your birdy to the vet, or take a sample of its droppings to the vet to be checked.

yeah, my finals are over this week so he's getting a wellness visit anyways next week. It smells like it could be remnants of the food. It just smells kind of rich? This is such a weird statement to make.

do you feed him greens? Dark colored greens make my dragons' poo smell awful... I know it's a totally different animal (literally) but maybe a possible cause? I know when he's eaten his kale from across the apartment to say the least...

I dont, but its worse the more baby food he eats, so i'm assuming that has a negative stink effect since its so rich.

I would assume since the baby foods are such rich foods in general they would have an oddly similar affect on your CAG as it would on a baby. You know the difference from a milk drinking babies diaper compared to a baby food eating babies diaper, because the more complex food going through thier system also means more complex poos, and same for our feathered birdies. =)
